The Athletic Trainer provides athletic training coverage and support for assigned sport teams or schools as directed by the Athletic Director, coordinating activities that include injury prevention, immediate assessment, evaluation, treatment, and appropriate triage of injuries. This role demands navigating significant challenges, such as securing supplies and equipment under tight budget restrictions, maintaining flexibility to adapt and prioritize changing needs, and effectively managing matrixed reporting relationships with stakeholders like coaches, administration, and medical doctors. Consequently, the employee must be highly competent in interpreting an athlete's self-reports and behavior, processing this information through a comprehensive understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional/psychosocial, and chronological maturation process. This approach ensures that all treatment is individualized and appropriately reflects the specific developmental needs and range of care required for each athlete.Essential Job Functions:
Assesses and provides appropriate injury prevention, management and rehabilitation to athletes within the guidelines of the N.A.T.A. and state licensing board regulations. Evaluates athletes and initiates appropriate treatment using accepted techniques in the school(s) setting. Communicates and advises frequently and effectively with others involved in the care of athletes regarding scheduling, treatment plans, progress and participation status. Provides and maintains accurate, thorough, legible and timely and non- related documentation, handwritten and/or computerized, in accordance with department and school district policies and procedure. Keeps informed of health care issues, changing department procedures, and other department information by attending staff/team meetings and/or reading staff meeting minutes, e-mails, and newsletters. Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to adjust daily schedule to meet service area demands and cover special events as requested. Performs duties in compliance with departmental policies, procedures, timelines, and productivity standards. Provides a comfortable, orderly, clean, and safe work environment, securing appropriate supplies as necessary. Promote injury prevention by communicating with coaches and school personnel in identification of potential concerns. Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, district and/or school policies.General Performance Requirements:

Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean and appropriate manner for the assignment and work setting. Maintains regular and appropriate attendance and is on time for assignment(s) for the purpose of meeting the needs of the students and the district. Confer regularly with immediate supervisor. Follow all district policies, work procedures and reasonable requests by proper authority. Maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to a student, family, colleague or district patron. Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position. Meet applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position.Experience, Education, Knoweldge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor's Degree in Health related field or equivalent education/experience. Prior athletic training, job-related experience - working with student athletes, school staff, medical professionals, coaches, and families. Skills to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance. Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods and state curriculum framework. Perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks. Ability to use computer technology - especially Google Suite and gmail. Ability to maintain records and keep confidential information secure. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and other school personnel. Ability to adjust work schedule to meet the needs of athletes and competition schedules. Meet schedules and deadlines. Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred. Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/orTesting Required:
Oregon Athletic Trainer License National Provider BLS - American Heart Association BOC (Board of Certification of athletic trainer's membership) Any offer of employment made by Hood River County School District to an external candidate is contingent upon satisfactory results of: Drug screening tests for any illegal drug or substance classified in Schedules I through V under the Federal Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. 811 to 812.
