Role Overview:
 This position is responsible for assisting with planning, coordination, and delivery of comprehensive training programs for bus driver and attendant trainees in both classroom and behind-the-wheel settings. The Transportation Trainer Assistant helps ensure transportation personnel receive high-quality instruction that meets regulatory requirements, promotes safety, and supports operational excellence.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
 High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
Three (3) years of satisfactory experience as a school bus driver.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding employee records and personnel matters. Successful completion of the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Driver Instructor Workshop for classroom and behind-the-wheel training or ability to obtain within one (1) year in this position. Meet and maintain all Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) and MSDE requirements for school bus drivers. Meets and maintains an acceptable school bus driving record to include, but not limited to, preventable and/or appreciable accidents. Hold and maintain a valid Maryland Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the appropriate school bus endorsements and no court ordered restrictions. Meets and maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local school bus driver requirements. Demonstrated knowledge of school bus operations and mechanical functions. Demonstrated knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to the operation of school buses. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and database management programs. Ability to adjust work hours on an irregular basis based on operational need. Hold and maintain a valid annual Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination.

Preferred Qualifications:
Five (5) years of satisfactory experience as a school bus driver. Associate Degree or higher from an accredited institution. Professional certifications. Experience in providing training for school bus drivers and attendants. Knowledge of Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) Transportation policies and procedures Knowledge and experience utilizing best practices in effectively instructing adults in small and large group settings. Knowledge and experience utilizing best practices for student management.
Role Responsibilities:
Administers the school vehicle driver training and certification program, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local transportation safety regulations. Assist supervisory staff in developing, revising, and implementing training curriculum and instructional materials. Instruct and demonstrate professional defensive driving techniques, student management strategies, and the operation of specialized transportation equipment. Oversee and implement all aspects of the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) self-testing program. Assist with development and delivery of the district's annual in-service training. Coordinate and maintain trainee CDL licensing requirements, including physical examinations, drug and alcohol testing, and MVA records. Assist with updates to bus driver and bus attendant manuals and maintain training materials and inventory for pre-service employees. Assist with bi-annual behind-the-wheel evaluations in accordance with COMAR regulations. Serve as a substitute bus driver, crossing guard, or bus attendant, as needed. Conduct on-site evaluations and provide recommendations for safe school bus stop locations. Serve as a member of the School Bus Accident Review Committee. Assist supervisory staff in evaluating road conditions during inclement weather. Serve as a backup dispatcher. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to training, certification, evaluations, and compliance requirements.

Will be subjected to loud noises, community traffic conditions, hot and cold outdoor temperatures, and weather-related conditions.
