Nemours Children's Health in Orlando, Florida is seeking an extern to join us for the 2027-2028 academic year. This externship is an excellent opportunity for a motivated candidate to expand their skills to become a confident pediatric audiologist. Our extern will have the opportunity to work alongside all of our pediatric audiologists across several Nemours Children's Health locations. Completion of at least one pediatric placement/practicum is preferred amongst candidates. Ideally, candidates will have a foundational background in pediatric assessment, allowing them to focus on refining clinical skills and managing more complex cases. Diagnostic experiences will include comprehensive hearing evaluations using Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA), Conditioned Play Audiometry (CPA), and conventional audiometry, as well as auditory brainstem response (ABR) evaluations in both sleep-deprived and sedated formats. Externs will also participate in cochlear implant evaluations, activations, and mapping, assessment and management of pediatric hearing aids (traditional and CROS systems) and bone-anchored hearing systems (BAHS), including both nonsurgical and surgical options. Additional learning opportunities include cortical auditory evoked potential evaluations and pediatric vestibular assessments. As members of multidisciplinary Cleft/Craniofacial and Microtia clinics, our audiologists collaborate closely with otolaryngologists, plastic surgeons, advanced practice providers, social workers, psychologists, and auditory verbal therapists. We highly value these interdisciplinary partnerships, and externs will have opportunities to observe and shadow professionals across multiple specialties throughout their training experience. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, have a willingness to learn and the desire for a career in pediatric audiology.
