BCBAs:
certify on Friday, inherit a full caseload on Monday, see your "clinical director" once a month, and spend year one wondering if everyone feels this unprepared. We built this position to be the opposite of that. Pillar 5 is a locally owned behavioral health company serving children and families across Humboldt County, one of California's most underserved regions for autism and behavioral services. We're small by design, and this is our principal BCBA role: you'll work directly alongside our Clinical Director to build the clinical programs, systems, and standards this company runs on. The person in this seat will have a genuine signature on how Pillar 5 develops over the next five to ten years, an opportunity no established organization can offer. How This Role Is Structured A caseload that ramps, in writing. You start with 4-6 clients (~15 billable hours/week) and build to our full expectation, 25 billable hours/week, over your first three to four months, as competency checkpoints are met. 40% of your week is protected. Your full-time week is ~25 hours of billable clinical work and ~15 protected hours for treatment planning and program development, working with the Clinical Director on treatment models, assessment systems, training infrastructure, and the service lines we'll offer next. Your report writing happens on the clock, not at your kitchen table at 9pm. Structured mentorship on a published model. Weekly 1:1 clinical mentorship with the Clinical Director through your entire first year, built on Kazemi, Adzhyan & Rice's Fieldwork and Supervision for Behavior Analysts competency framework, a real curriculum for your first year of practice, not sink-or-swim. Defined reviews, not vague promises. Compensation review at 6 months (full-caseload milestone) and movement into our $82,000-$88,000 band eligible at 12 months, with a defined pathway to senior clinical leadership as Pillar 5 grows. What You'll Do Independently conduct functional behavior and skills assessments, selecting instruments based on client need Author and maintain individualized treatment plans and BIPs with full clinical authority over your caseload Supervise and train Registered Behavior Technicians using Behavior Skills Training (BST) Design and deliver parent/caregiver training programs Partner with the Clinical Director ~15 hours/week on clinical program development and systems building Once BACB supervisor requirements are met, provide fieldwork supervision to BCBA trainees in our structured supervision program What You'll Bring Current BCBA certification through the BACB, in good standing, newly certified BCBAs are exactly who this role is designed for Master's degree in ABA, psychology, education, or a related field Strong clinical curiosity and a genuine interest in how great programs get built Reliable transportation and a valid CA driver's license (clinic, home, school, and community settings; periodic travel to Willow Creek, Hoopa, and Fortuna) Ability to pass a background check What We Offer $76,000 - $80,000 starting salary with the defined review schedule above Medical, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with employer match Paid time off + paid holidays Paid CEUs and BACB recertification fees 25-hour billable cap and protected non-billable time, in writing Weekly structured mentorship through your entire first year Why Humboldt Imagine a ten-minute commute that ends at the redwoods. Humboldt County offers what no metro can: wild coastline, rivers, ancient forests, and a college-town culture (Cal Poly Humboldt) with real food, arts, and farmers markets, at a cost of living that lets your salary actually build a life. Why Pillar 5 We started Pillar 5 because we believe this work can be done better, with more care, more thought, and more respect for the clinicians doing it. We're a small, locally owned company, and we're honest about what that means: you won't disappear into a caseload machine, and your ideas won't die in a suggestion box. You'll sit down with the Clinical Director every week and help decide, together, what this company becomes, the treatment models we use, the way we train people, the kind of place this is to work. The promises in this posting aren't recruiting language; they're in writing because we've watched too many good BCBAs get burned out by companies that said one thing and scheduled another. We can't offer you a big company's name. We can offer you something rarer: a place where you'll be known, trusted, and genuinely needed, and where, ten years from now, you'll be able to point at what Pillar 5 became and say, "I helped built that." How to Apply Submit your resume and a brief cover letter telling us what kind of clinician you want to become. If you're weeks away from your exam rather than past it, apply anyway and tell us your timeline; we also run a paid trainee pathway (our Associate Behavior Clinician position). Pillar 5 is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
