Please only apply if you are willing and able to participate (details below).•Position Summary At Summa Academy, the Behavior Technician (BT) role supports our Non-Public School (NPS) team with implementing student's Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to include all academic and behavioral goals and objectives. BT's attend to the instructional, behavioral, physical, and health needs of students; monitor and report student progress regarding performance with regards to each individual student's program. In addition to providing instructional support to students with disabilities under the guidance of the Special Education Teacher, BCBA, and Associate Director, the BT can support with all duties that enable students with disabilities to have equal educational opportunities and access to their academic placement. Transportation Program •We are currently hiring for the 8:45AM-4:45PM shift! • In addition to our standard BT shift (8:30AM-3:30PM), we also offer Transportation Program shifts for interested and qualified staff. Transportation duties can be before school (7:00AM-3:00PM) or after school (8:45AM-4:45PM) and consist of transporting 1-3 students on pre-determined routes in company-owned vehicles. Each car is staffed by a driver and a support staff member. Staff members participating in the Transportation Program will have $1.00 added to their hourly base rate in recognition of the additional duties. To participate in the Transportation Program, you must have a valid Driver's License and a clean DMV record that meets the requirements of transporting students in a school setting in accordance with the California Department of Education. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist the classroom and school team in providing instruction to students in an assigned classroom or program as designated by our NPS administration. Assist students with disabilities to meet their goals and objectives defined in their IEP. Implement class-wide and individual behavior strategies to effectively maintain a safe learning environment, in collaboration with the classroom staff. Assist the classroom and school team in monitoring, motivating and teaching students with various disabilities; observe and manage academic and behavior skills of students according to approved procedures; report progress regarding student academic performance and behavior as directed by the classroom and school team; follow the behavior intervention plan. Support students or an assigned student with daily living and functional skills related to their areas of need and IEP goals, including toileting. Develops and implements modifications and intervention strategies based on student need, as directed by the classroom and school team. React and intervene quickly during crisis situations, such as but not limited to the following circumstances: student elopement, physical altercations involving students, or any situation that requires physical intervention to maintain student safety. Assist with data collection; take data on goals and determine when a student has reached a benchmark to ensure continued and ongoing student progress in collaboration with the classroom and school team. Active RBT certification (preferred). Valid driver's license and clean DMV driving record (preferred). AA or bachelor's degree or enrolled in college or community college with emphasis in psychology, child development, or related field (preferred). Previous 2-year experience working with children, ABA, or Autism-related fields (preferred). Passion and enthusiasm for working with children. Work Environment & Physical Demands The position typically operates on-site, in-person, in a school environment Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm. Participants in the Transportation Program may be required to start earlier and/or end later depending on the needs of the students and the program. The employee may be required to intervene and de-escalate physical and emotional outbursts by students, including such behaviors as kicking, spitting, hitting, scratching, biting, running, and cursing; the employee must be able to run quickly for brief spurts. While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, stand, move and walk at a brisk pace, sit, and use hands and arms to handle, feel and reach. The position requires the ability to accompany students anywhere on school premises, including support with toileting and other basic needs. The employee is occasionally required to stoop or kneel and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
