General Description:
The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) provides division-wide leadership, consultation, and direct support in the development and implementation of behavior analytic services for students with disabilities. This position supports a comprehensive continuum of services across general education, special education, and specialized programs to ensure students with behavioral needs can access and benefit from their educational environment, and oversees Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), including providing training and case-specific support. Additionally, this position provides coaching and guidance to technicians, teachers, and school administrators by providing evidence-based practices to minimize maladaptive behaviors and teach replacement behaviors. The BCBA collaborates with school-based teams, central office staff, and families to design, implement, and monitor evidence-based behavioral interventions aligned with federal and Virginia state regulations.Job Description:
Essential Job Functions:
Conducts and oversees Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), and ensures the development of high-quality, evidence-based Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) Analyzes division, school, and student-level behavioral data to guide decision-making, monitor trends, and improve outcomes for students with behavioral needs Provides consultation and technical assistance to school-based teams, administrators, and central office staff to support complex student cases and systemic behavioral needs Designs, coordinates, and delivers professional learning on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), de-escalation strategies, and evidence-based behavioral interventions Coaches and supports school staff to ensure fidelity of implementation of behavioral strategies and interventions across settings Supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of programs serving students with intensive behavioral needs, ensuring access to the least restrictive environment Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, including special education staff, school psychologists, social workers, and administrators, to ensure aligned and comprehensive student support Participates in, and provides expertise during, Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, eligibility meetings, manifestation determinations, and other compliance-related processes as needed Provides guidance on crisis prevention, intervention planning, and post-incident response aligned with division policies and best practices Ensures compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) regulations, Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) Ethics Code, and division policies and procedures Collaborates with families and community agencies to support continuity of care and generalization of skills across environments Maintains accurate and timely documentation related to assessments, consultation, training, and program outcomes Perform other duties as assignedBudgetary Responsibility:

This position requires skill in the use of a computer, duplicating equipment, and various assistive technology devices.Work Direction/Supervision:
This position provides work direction to Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs).Decision Making:
Independent decision-making is used when concerns or questions come up that can be solved logically in the position. Supervisor's guidance/approval is needed with complex questions and/or concerns.Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a school or office environment. The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
The position requires strong data analysis and problem-solving skills to effectively interpret behavioral data and guide decision-making. The individual must demonstrate excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including educators, administrators, related service providers, and families. The role also requires the ability to coach and build capacity among diverse teams, supporting staff in implementing evidence-based practices with fidelity. A deep understanding of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), and inclusive practices is essential. Additionally, the position requires expertise in crisis prevention and intervention to support safe, proactive, and responsive behavioral practices across a variety of educational settings.Additional Job Requirements:
Master's Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field, along with current certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and experience working with students with disabilities in school settings, conducting FBAs, and developing BIPs. Must hold a valid Virginia Driver's license. This position requires the incumbent to drive.Preferred:
Experience working within a large public school division, as well as knowledge of trauma-informed practices and culturally responsive behavior supports.
