Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The School Paraprofessional/Assistant provides assistance to teachers, and other school personnel, in the delivery of quality education and support services for students, in an array of classroom settings. Duties will vary according to the needs of the student(s) from physical assistance and care, to behavior management and academic assistance. The School Paraprofessional/Assistant works under the supervision of the teacher and/or school principal.

LICENSURE
None required.
EXPERIENCE
At least six months of experience as a school Certified Behavior Technician in the school setting within the last 2 years.
CREDENTIALS
: CPR as required by school; health and screening tests as required by school facilities and/or regulatory agencies.
ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Various school facility settings; possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Complies with ATC policies/procedures. Complies with school facility policies/procedures. Works under the supervision of the teacher by assisting with instructional and non-instructional duties as directed. Before instructional start time receives student(s) from transportation. Following instructional time assists/escorts student(s) to afterschool activity/ transportation. Accompanies the student(s) to and from their classes and lunch room, when necessary. Eats lunch with the student(s) when directed to do so. Assists student(s) with disabilities on an individual or group basis in the general education and/or special education classrooms. Assists in planning and adapting activities and classroom work. May accompany the student to and from their classes and lunchroom. Listens to student(s) read. Assists students, on an individual basis, who have difficulty in understanding directions. Encourages student(s) to complete their work. Aids in improving students' attitude toward school. Interacts with all students in a positive manner. Reinforces the directions and instruction given the student(s) by the classroom teacher. Assists the teacher in the preparation of instructional materials. Corrects work completed by the student(s) under the guidance of the teacher. Accompanies the teacher and class on field trips. Assists with classroom parties and special functions. Assists with the operation of audio-visual equipment. Assists with classroom clerical work. Assists the teacher in setting up work areas or centers. Maintain confidentiality concerning student records. Provides physical assistance to students with physical challenges.
