In this vital role, you will be responsible for conducting exercise and pharmacological cardiac stress tests under the supervision of a supervising physician or Advanced Practice Provider (APP). This position is open to experienced Cardiac Stress Technicians as well as motivated Certified/Registered Medical Assistants looking for a career advancement pathway, with comprehensive on-the-job stress lab training provided. During stress lab downtime or between scheduled testing procedures, this role actively supports clinical operations by stepping in to perform core Medical Assistant duties, rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, and maintaining workflow efficiency across the practice.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Cardiac Stress Testing & Clinical Monitoring:

• Prepare patients for stress testing by explaining procedures, obtaining clinical history, and addressing patient concerns.
• Prep patient skin and properly place 12-lead ECG electrodes to ensure clear signal acquisition and baseline tracings.
• Administer exercise treadmill tests and assist in pharmacological stress protocols under provider supervision.
• Monitor real-time ECG tracings, heart rate, blood pressure, and patient symptoms throughout testing and recovery phases.
• Recognize ST-segment shifts, arrhythmias, or adverse clinical reactions promptly and escalate immediately to the supervising clinician.
• Compile accurate test summary reports and maintain equipment readiness and emergency crash carts. Clinical Operations & Medical Assistant Support (Downtime Duties):
• Step in as a Medical Assistant during stress lab downtime or light testing schedules to maintain overall practice patient flow.
• Room patients, record chief complaints, take accurate vital signs, and update current medication lists in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Assist physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) with routine cardiac patient visits, diagnostic procedures, and minor clinical tasks.
• Clean, sanitize, and restock clinical examination rooms and stress lab suites between patient visits.
• Assist with administrative clinical workflows, including prior authorizations, prescription refills, and triaging patient inquiries as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Education & Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in allied health preferred.
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA / RMA) credential preferred OR prior clinical experience in an outpatient cardiology setting.

Career Advancement Pathway:

Candidates without formal stress testing experience will be considered if they demonstrate strong foundational ECG knowledge, clinical aptitude, and a commitment to completing internal on-the-job training.

Certifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (ACLS preferred or required within 6 months of hire).
• Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT) or Certified Cardiac Technician (CCT) preferred (or eligible for internal training pathway).

Core Competencies:

• Basic understanding of 12-lead ECG placement and cardiac rhythm recognition.
• Strong flexibility to transition smoothly between stress lab responsibilities and general Medical Assistant duties.
• Excellent patient communication, clinical judgment, and EHR documentation skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS

• Requires standing, walking, bending, and assisting patients on and off treadmills for extended periods.
• Occasional lifting or assisting patients weighing up to 50 lbs or more.
• Fast-paced outpatient cardiology practice environment requiring multi-tasking across clinical roles.
