Job Description

UF Health is seeking a Surgical Tech II - Cardiovascular to support complex cardiac and vascular procedures in our advanced operating rooms. In this role, you will prepare and maintain instruments and sterile fields, anticipate surgeon needs, and ensure adherence to strict safety and infection-control standards. You will collaborate closely with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. Responsibilities Prepare operating room and cardiovascular surgical instruments and supplies Establish and maintain sterile field and follow strict aseptic technique Anticipate surgeon and team needs during cardiac and vascular procedures Operate and care for specialized cardiovascular OR equipment Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping Count instruments, sponges, and sharps with the team to ensure accuracy Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia staff for safe care Follow infection prevention and safety protocols and regulatory standards Document equipment use and report issues or shortages Participate in ongoing education, skills development, and quality initiatives Required Skills Cardiovascular surgical procedures (CABG, valve, vascular) Sterile technique and aseptic practices Operating room instrumentation and setup Use of surgical retractors, staplers, and energy devices Cardiovascular OR equipment (e.g., heart-lung, cell saver support) Infection prevention and control standards Surgical counts and patient safety protocols Reading and following surgical preference cards Basic life support and emergency response Electronic documentation and OR workflows
