Job Description

UF Health is seeking a Surgical Tech II - Cardiovascular to join our dynamic cardiovascular surgical team in Gainesville, FL. In this role, you will prepare operating rooms, arrange and manage sterile instruments, and assist surgeons during complex cardiovascular and cardiothoracic procedures. You will ensure strict adherence to sterile technique, patient safety, and quality standards while collaborating closely with nurses, anesthesiologists, and surgeons. Responsibilities Prepare cardiovascular operating rooms and ensure all instruments, supplies, and equipment are available and functioning. Maintain strict sterile technique and infection control standards throughout procedures. Anticipate surgeon needs and pass instruments, sutures, and supplies efficiently during surgery. Set up, operate, and troubleshoot specialized cardiovascular equipment as directed. Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping in collaboration with the surgical team. Count sponges, needles, and instruments according to policy to ensure patient safety. Handle, label, and care for specimens accurately. Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses to support safe, efficient procedures. Participate in quality improvement, safety initiatives, and continuing education. Maintain accurate documentation and support orientation of new team members as needed. Required Skills Cardiovascular/cardiothoracic surgical procedures Sterile technique and aseptic practices Surgical instrumentation and tray setup Operating room workflow and safety Infection control and prevention Use of cardiovascular equipment (e.g., bypass-related, monitors) Specimen handling and labeling Sponge/needle/instrument counts Patient positioning and draping Electronic medical record and basic documentation
