Job Requirements Patient Care Technician Trainee, Cardiac Telemetry Full time, Nights, 7p-7:30a $1,000 Sign On Bonus; restrictions may apply I. General Summary Participating in a Certified Nursing Assistant program approved by the Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON), this is a training role working under the direction of professional nursing staff to provide direct patient care. Practices clinical skills to gain experience in acute care/hospital setting under the supervision of a licensed nurse. II. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed at the completion of this program. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified. 1. Provides individualized care to meet the needs of the patient. 2. Performs and/or assist the patient with personal grooming and hygiene, including CHG bath or soap/water complete bath. 3. Performs and/or assists patients with eating and drinking and educates patients on the importance of food and basic nutrition and nutrition's role in health and illness. 4. Identifies and applies basic observational recording and reporting skills 5. Obtains intake and output data for a variety of patients and records/reports results. 6. Utilizes and documents patient care in the electronic health system. 7. Uses proper infection control techniques. 8. Positions the patient with ambulation. Performs range of motion exercises. 9. Understands activities of daily living (ADLs). Assist patients with toileting. 10. Performs selected treatments including mental health on a variety of patients as directed and/or supervised. 11. Prepares patients for surgery and cares for them afterwards. 12. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Experience I. Education & Experience 1. High school diploma or equivalent required. 2. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred. 3. Must be participating in Certified Nursing Assistant program approved by the Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON). II. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1. Understands the patient care technician trainee role in relation to the healthcare workplace, especially in relation to the performance of delegated nursing functions. 2. Ability to read, write and understand medical terminology. 3. Follows directions and effectively conveys verbal and written information. 4. Performs mathematical calculations accurately. 5. Responds to emergency situations appropriately. 6. Adapts hours of availability to variable and changing needs of the hospital, including all shifts. 7. Effectively functions as a member of a collaborative team. 8. Organizes and manages time effectively, setting appropriate priorities. 9. Complies with OSHA standards. 10. Understands and respects importance of patient privacy and confidentiality. 11. Develops and promotes a constructive/positive atmosphere within the work area by demonstrating the ability to maintain cooperation with and assist fellow health team members, physicians, intra and inter-departments, hospital and nursing administration. 12. Applies interpersonal relationship skills in the healthcare workplace. 13. Understands the ethical and legal issues affecting the work of the patient care technician trainee. 14. Understands common mental health problems. 15. Understands the features of acute and long-term care. 16. Understands ways to improve patient satisfaction/experience. 17. Understands general concepts of hospital reimbursement. 18. Demonstrates a basic understanding of disease process and chronic vs. acute illness.
