Job Description

SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision of Nurse Manager and Assistant Clinical Nurse Manager and according to established protocols, assists in the operation and maintenance of analytic and re-coding biomedical equipment and instrumentation used for patient monitoring in the Cardiovascular and Electrophysiology Laboratory. May assist physician during procedures to pass instruments, monitors equipment, assists in cardiopulmonary resuscitation as necessary. Performs other related duties including maintaining inventory levels, procedure case stocking, anesthesia stocking within the cath and EP lab ensuring cleanliness of laboratory and transporting patients. RESPONSIBILITIES

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Sets up procedure room necessary instruments, equipment and supplies appropriate for each procedure. Operates variety of equipment to monitor patient status and to acquire data during procedures. Performs basic calculations of acquired data to assist physician in analysis. May use computer terminal to enterccess related patient data. May provide related assistance during surgical procedures to place blood pressure cuffs, pass instruments, assist with transfer of patient and then like. As necessary, participates in cardiopulmonary resuscitation as necessary. Ensures cleanliness and operational integrity of variety of monitoring and recording equipment. Alerts supervisor to need maintenance of equipment as appropriate. Assures procedures and storage areas are clean and orderly in accordance to established standards. As necessary, transports patients and equipment and to and from surgical procedures areas. Cleans and packages items to be sent for sterilization. Maintains appropriate inventory levels of supplies in laboratory; checks for outdated materials reorders supplies as necessary. Picks up and delivers STAT items using roller cart as directed. Restocking of supplies in the lab for cases to include cath and EP procedure supplies and restocking anesthesia supplies, Case stocking for same day or next day procedures
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
BASIC
KNOWLEDGE
High School education, with the ability to comprehend technical and medical terminology. Technical ability to set up, operate and maintain analytical recording and photographic equipment. Analytical skills to assess reliability of monitoring equipment. Numerical skills to perform calculations of acquired data. Visual acuity to monitor equipment gauges and displays, read labels and charts and the like. Physical ability to assist with transport and transfer of patient and equipment and to stand for prolonged periods of time during procedures at which time lead apron is worn. Interpersonal skills to explain procedures, elicit cooperation of patient during test and to exchange information with physicians and other Hospital personnel. Ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, with certification in CPR required.
EXPERIENCE
1 year of procedural area assistance preferred. Two to Three months on-the-job training to provide the experience needed to perform functions of position.
INDEPENDENT ACTION
Performs independently within the department's policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to the supervisor when clarification of the departmental policies and procedures are required.
