Job Description

Clearview Cancer Institute is north Alabama's leading cancer treatment facility. Job Purpose The purpose of the Disability Specialist is to coordinate the support for all patients' leave of absence cases, Family Medical Leave Act claims, as well as short term and long-term disability claims. Essential Job Functions Complete FMLA forms, as well as short term disability forms and long-term disability forms. Complete and send patient letters requested by patients and/or caregivers. Fax forms and letters to appropriate agencies, patients, caregivers, and/or physicians. Review and ensure that all forms, letters, and claims are scanned and accounted for in patients' charts. Interpret and administer leave programs and policies in accordance with applicable federal and state employment laws. Work closely with patients and caregivers to ensure that all relevant completed documentation is submitted for review. Manage short term and long-term disability programs and vendor relationships. Ensure that short term disability claims are coordinated with FMLA or general medical leaves. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must have excellent organizational skills. Must have excellent time management and prioritization skills. Must be able to analyze information quickly. Must be able to multi-task and shift between tasks easily. Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written Must be efficient in technical writing Education/Experience Post-Secondary Degree preferred Minimum of two years direct patient care required Minimum of two years Oncology/Hematology experience preferred Thorough knowledge base of government and private insurance required Minimum of two years experience with completing FMLA and STD/LTD forms preferred Working conditions This position works in the social work department of a busy oncology/hematology clinic. Direct patient contact is required to assist patients with disability claims and leave requests. Physical requirements This position requires that the employee be able to sit and work on a computer for up to eight hours a day. This position also requires that the employee be able to stand and walk several times a day to complete assigned tasks. Direct Reports This position is not a supervisory position.
