ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform all required duties as outlined in the Dental Care Coordinator job description, as appropriate for assisting with clinic coverage. Ensure that Dental Care Coordinators perform duties completely and accurately, communicating any administrative, clerical, billing and performance issues to Management. Ensure that all policies, procedures, and processes for the Dental department are applicable and followed. Obtains and maintains an understanding of insurances and apply those understandings to ensure that the payable amount is received for the services provided. To ensure proper patient flow, maintain an open line of communication with Management and the clinical staff as to changes in patient appointments due to unforeseen circumstances, etc. Answer telephone, make appointments, ask patient for insurance information and inform patient of out-of-network benefits prior to visit, and explain charges to patients in a courteous, friendly and accurate manner. Call patients to confirm their scheduled appointment ahead of time and pull/file patient's chart for each day's scheduled appointments. Greet patients in a courteous, friendly, and professional manner. Register patients, update and file current patient information and insurances. Discuss pricing for treatment plans with the patient. Inform patient of SLFHC's current payment policies and if necessary, refer patient to Patient Account Specialist. If eligibility for sliding fee scale is identified or if a change in payor source code is identified, refer patient to Outreach department. Handle patient complaints professionally and courteously, forwarding and/or communicating any unresolved issues to Management. Receive payment for services rendered, provide a receipt to the patient and discuss individual pre-payment needs for impending services. Enter daily encounter data into the computer, by respective provider, with current patient information, payor codes, charges, and procedures. Ensure that Dental Care Coordinators are following the red flag procedures for identity theft. Verify patient identity by requesting government issued photo I.D. or two forms of non-photo identification of patient or responsible party (parent, stepparent, or guardian) and scan into practice management system, track red flags into identity theft tracking log. Balance daily total charges from encounters to charges entered in the computer and complete. Responsible for combining, balancing, and submitting Daily Transaction Balancing Sheet and Day Sheet Payment Report from the Practice Management system for Dental at end of shift. Maintain and monitor the patient recall system monthly. Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalency 2 years supervisory experience preferred. One year experience as a cashier/receptionist in a dental facility.
