Full-Time Required Qualifications Certifications Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists (AMT). Education Graduate of a Medical Assistant program accredited by one of the following: Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) Other school approved by the U.S. Department of Education MA certification through AAMA or AMT may be accepted in lieu of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program. Position Summary The Medical Assistant Specialty Care Coordinator supports the Hematology Oncology team by providing comprehensive administrative, clinical support, and care coordination services. This position focuses primarily on back-office functions that help ensure patients are appropriately prepared for specialty care, authorizations are completed timely, and necessary services, laboratory testing, and appointments are coordinated efficiently. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a specialty oncology environment while collaborating closely with providers, clinical teams, patients, and external healthcare partners. Primary Responsibilities Coordinate and process prior authorizations for medications, treatments, and specialty services. Process medication authorizations for home health and infusion services. Coordinate specialty laboratory authorizations and assist with obtaining required approvals. Prepare and submit requisitions for specialty laboratory testing. Perform chart preparation to ensure patient records are complete and ready for upcoming visits. Assist with coordinating patient appointments and follow-up needs as directed by the clinical team. Respond to select questions or requests forwarded by the triage team, providing appropriate administrative support and routing clinical concerns as needed. Assist with patient care coordination activities related to Hematology Oncology services. Support back-office workflows and administrative functions to promote efficient patient care. Communicate effectively with providers, clinical staff, patients, laboratories, pharmacies, infusion services, and other healthcare partners. Maintain accurate documentation and follow established organizational and departmental procedures. Perform other administrative and Medical Assistant duties as assigned. Experience Minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare or pediatric setting. Experience in Hematology Oncology, specialty care, care coordination, prior authorizations, infusion services, or specialty laboratory coordination is preferred. Preferred Skills and Attributes Strong organizational and time-management skills. Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Familiarity with prior authorization processes and specialty care coordination. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information appropriately. Comfortable working in a fast-paced specialty care environment. Commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered service. The MA Specialty Care Coordinator works under the direction of a licensed healthcare professional and performs various clinical and administrative tasks for a designated department, clinic, or patient population at Phoenix Children's. This position requires a clinical knowledge base to facilitate patient care, eliminate barriers, improve the overall quality of care, and enhance the patient experience including floating to other locations/departments as directed by leadership Position Duties Works with the care team to optimize the patient care experience for patients and families; helping patients overcome barriers to care, improving overall quality of care and enhancing patient and clinic flows. Acts as a direct liaison for families within the specified disease population; working collaboratively with patients, providers, nurses, referral coordinators, and office staff. Works collaboratively with unit and provider leadership by contributing in planning, decision-making, and communication to healthcare team Participates with multidisciplinary team to evaluate quality outcomes and patient satisfaction Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
