Job Description

Position Summary The Clinical Assessment & Therapy Clinician is responsible for providing high-quality behavioral health assessment, diagnostic, treatment planning, therapy, and clinical consultation services to children, adolescents, adults, and families served by the organization. Approximately 60% of the role is dedicated to clinical assessments and associated documentation. The clinician evaluates individuals referred for behavioral health services, determines clinical needs and eligibility within the clinician's scope of practice and applicable payer requirements, supports appropriate diagnostic formulation, develops treatment recommendations, and ensures documentation demonstrates medical necessity. The clinician will also maintain a therapy caseload based on organizational need and participate in required and as-needed multidisciplinary case consultations. The ideal candidate is clinically sound, organized, comfortable making clinical decisions, able to manage multiple deadlines, and experienced or interested in working with Medicaid and state-funded behavioral health populations. Primary Responsibilities A. Clinical Assessment & Diagnostic Services — Approximately 70% Conduct comprehensive behavioral health assessments for referred clients. Evaluate presenting concerns, behavioral health symptoms, functional impairment, psychosocial history, trauma history, risk factors, strengths, family dynamics, environmental factors, and other clinically relevant information. Utilize
DSM-5-TR
criteria and other applicable clinical standards to support appropriate diagnostic formulation within the clinician's scope of practice. Determine whether clinical information supports medical necessity and eligibility for recommended behavioral health services within applicable payer and program requirements. Develop clinically appropriate recommendations based on assessment findings. Complete initial treatment plans and other required assessment-related documentation. Complete or participate in CANS, ANSA, or other standardized assessments as required by program or payer. Identify situations in which a client does not meet criteria for the requested service and clearly document the clinical rationale. Ensure diagnosis, assessment findings, functional impairment, treatment recommendations, and requested services are clinically consistent. Complete documentation accurately and within organizational timelines. Respond to clinical documentation revisions, utilization-review requests, audit findings, or payer requests for clarification as needed. Consult with the Clinical Manager regarding complex diagnostic, eligibility, risk, or medical-necessity questions. All clinicians hired into this position must be willing and able to provide therapy in addition to assessment responsibilities. Maintain an assigned individual and/or family therapy caseload based on organizational needs. Provide evidence-based and trauma-informed behavioral health interventions. Develop and maintain treatment plans consistent with identified diagnoses and medical necessity. Monitor treatment progress and modify interventions when clinically appropriate. Complete progress notes and other therapy documentation within required timelines. Conduct ongoing risk and safety assessments. Coordinate care with parents, caregivers, case managers, schools, CPS, juvenile justice professionals, physicians, and other treatment-team members when appropriate. Participate in crisis intervention and clinical consultation when needed. Participate in required interdisciplinary case conferences. Participate in a minimum of two scheduled case consultations annually for assigned clients when applicable. Participate in additional case consultations when clinically indicated, including significant changes in functioning, crisis situations, hospitalization, safety concerns, treatment barriers, or potential discharge. Provide clinical interpretation and recommendations to case managers, skills trainers, supervisors, leadership, caregivers, and other treatment-team members. Review client progress and determine whether current diagnoses, treatment recommendations, level of care, and services continue to be clinically appropriate. Collaborate with utilization management and authorization staff when clinical clarification is needed to support payer review. Participate in clinical supervision, department meetings, training, quality-improvement activities, and audits. Clinicians should be comfortable working with diverse and complex behavioral health populations, including: Children and adolescents Adults and families Children involved with CPS or foster care School-aged youth Juvenile justice-involved youth Individuals with trauma histories Individuals receiving Medicaid or state-funded behavioral health services Clients receiving case management and/or skills training services Clients with co-occurring psychosocial, family, educational, behavioral, or legal needs Required & Preferred Qualifications Education Master's degree or higher in counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, psychology, or a closely related behavioral health discipline. Licensure — Level I Current Texas associate-level or master's-level behavioral health credential appropriate to assigned duties, such as LPC-Associate, LMFT-Associate, LMSW, or equivalent. Candidate must maintain all supervision required by the applicable licensing board and practice within applicable payer and organizational requirements. Licensure — Level II / Level III Current unrestricted Texas independent clinical license such as LPC, LCSW, or LMFT. Independent clinical licensure is strongly preferred because of the assessment, diagnostic, Medicaid, and clinical decision-making responsibilities of the position. Preferred Qualifications Experience conducting comprehensive behavioral health assessments. Experience with diagnostic formulation and differential diagnosis. Knowledge of

diagnostic criteria. Experience developing treatment plans and documenting medical necessity. Experience working with Medicaid or Medicaid managed-care populations. Experience in community behavioral health. Experience with children and adolescents. Experience working with CPS, foster care, schools, juvenile justice, or other child-serving systems. CANS and/or ANSA certification, or willingness to obtain required certification within the organization's established timeframe. Experience providing trauma-informed care and completing clinical risk assessments. Experience with electronic health records and behavioral health utilization/authorization workflows.

$58,000.00 - $72,000.00 per year
