Sutter Eden Medical Center Position Overview:
This position is responsible for accurately assigning charges for emergency and trauma services. This involves reviewing emergency and trauma clinical chart documentation in Epic, accurately abstracting pertinent information and assigning charges for services in accordance with System's guidelines, policies, and regulatory requirements. Emergency Trauma Charger also researches and makes necessary charge corrections and changes to patient accounts.
Job Description :
EDUCATION
Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma. High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Nursing or another related field preferred. Certified Coding Specialist certification is strongly preferred
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE
E xperience in healthcare revenue cycle, charge capture, hospital outpatient coding or emergency department operations experience strongly preferred. 1-year recent relevant experience
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
CPT / HCPCS
coding fundamentals. Strong critical thinking skills Must be detailed oriented. Excellent verbal/written communication and listening skills. Ability to prioritize tasks to meet expected productivity and accuracy standards. Ability to work well independently and with others. Strong written and verbal communications skills. Basic knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook), electronic health records (EHR), EPIC, and related information systems. Must ensure the privacy of each patient's protected health information (PHI).
