Job Description

Our client is currently seeking a HIM Specialist Health Information Management (HIM)
Specialist Schedule:
Monday-Friday | 8:30 AM - 4:30

RHIA or RHIT Position Summary:
The Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist is responsible for validating, processing, and releasing medical records for all Atlantic Health facilities, including Atlantic Medical Group, Primary Care Partners, and Atlantic Health Partners. This role ensures the timely, accurate, and compliant release of protected health information while delivering exceptional customer service to patients, providers, and other authorized requestors. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, knowledge of healthcare privacy regulations, and the ability to effectively manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Review and verify the authenticity and completeness of authorizations prior to releasing medical information. Process requests for medical records in accordance with HIPAA regulations, organizational policies, and release-of-information procedures. Respond professionally and courteously to incoming calls from internal and external customers. Retrieve, sort, date-stamp, and prepare incoming mail and fax requests for processing. Log all release-of-information requests into the ROI tracking system, documenting requestors, addresses, dates sent, and records released. Prepare and securely transmit medical records through electronic and paper formats, including password protection of electronic media. Certify medical records when requested and authorized. Process walk-in patient requests, verify identity, collect payments, and maintain accurate transaction records. Process incoming payments, including cash, checks, and credit card transactions. Validate the accuracy and completeness of medical records prior to final release. Escalate questionable or non-compliant release requests to the HIM Supervisor for review. Maintain inventory and order departmental office supplies as needed. Ensure all requests are completed accurately, efficiently, and within established turnaround times. Maintain strict confidentiality and compliance with all privacy and security regulations. Qualifications Required Education Associate Degree in Health Information Technology, or Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management, or High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of two (2) years of healthcare experience. Required Certification Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification. Required Experience Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a healthcare environment working with electronic medical record (EMR/EHR) systems. Experience processing medical records, release of information requests, or health information management functions preferred. Experience handling confidential patient information and maintaining HIPAA compliance. Medical, dental, and vision insurance are available to qualified candidates who meet eligibility requirements.
