In Office Position Summary Internal Medicine of Arizona is seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager to oversee the daily operations of our CLIA-certified, moderate-complexity laboratory within a primary care practice. The Laboratory Manager is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant laboratory testing. This hands-on position includes operating and maintaining analyzers, processing specimens, performing quality control and proficiency testing, reviewing results, managing inventory, and coordinating equipment service. The ideal candidate can work independently, troubleshoot effectively, and collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, medical assistants, and laboratory staff to support exceptional patient care. Key Responsibilities Oversee the daily operation of the in-office moderate-complexity laboratory. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and diagnostic equipment. Perform and document daily quality control, calibrations, and scheduled maintenance. Monitor analyzer performance and respond promptly to errors, trends, and testing concerns. Review, verify, and release laboratory results through LabDAQ accurately and within established turnaround times. Complete proficiency testing surveys according to applicable CLIA and COLA requirements. Process, prepare, label, store, and handle patient specimens according to established procedures. Perform venipuncture and other specimen-collection duties as needed. Order and manage reagents, controls, calibrators, testing materials, and general laboratory supplies. Track inventory levels, lot numbers, expiration dates, reagent usage, and supply costs. Coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs, and service visits with equipment vendors. Maintain complete and accurate laboratory records, logs, policies, and quality documentation. Support compliance with CLIA, COLA, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory and safety requirements. Assist with inspections, audits, corrective actions, and quality-improvement initiatives. Develop and improve workflows to support accuracy, efficiency, and patient service. Train and support laboratory personnel and other clinical staff as needed. Communicate critical values, specimen concerns, and testing issues promptly to the appropriate provider. Qualifications Minimum of two years of clinical laboratory experience in a physician office, hospital, or reference laboratory required. Experience working in a CLIA-certified moderate-complexity laboratory strongly preferred. Hands-on experience operating clinical analyzers required; experience with Abbott ARCHITECT, Sysmex, Beckman Coulter, Roche, Siemens, or comparable platforms preferred. Experience with quality control, calibration, proficiency testing, analyzer maintenance, and troubleshooting. Experience reviewing and verifying results within a laboratory information system; LabDAQ experience is a plus. Experience ordering laboratory supplies and managing reagent inventory. Working knowledge of CLIA, COLA, CAP, OSHA, and general laboratory compliance requirements. Phlebotomy and venipuncture experience preferred. Strong organizational, documentation, troubleshooting, and communication skills. Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Must meet all applicable federal and state personnel qualifications for the testing performed.
