Job Summary The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day oversight and leadership of the General Laboratory, including direct supervision of Clinical Laboratory Medical Technologists performing moderate- and high-complexity testing across chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, and immunology. This role ensures testing accuracy, regulatory compliance, staffing coverage, and consistent turnaround times across all shifts. The Supervisor acts as the technical and operational point of escalation for the laboratory team, driving quality assurance, staff development, and continuous operational improvement in support of Eccolab Group's commitment to patient safety and diagnostic excellence. Scope This position provides overall supervisory accountability for the General Laboratory, including staffing, workflow, quality, and compliance across shifts. The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor oversees the technologists who perform daily bench testing, ensures shift-to-shift continuity, and serves as the primary escalation point for technical, procedural, and personnel issues. The role works within Eccolab Group's established quality management system, regulatory frameworks (CLIA, COLA, OSHA), and laboratory policies, while carrying responsibility for team performance, audit readiness, and departmental operational stability. Licensure & Certification Requirements Candidates must possess the following credentials (verification will be required during the interview process): Active Florida Clinical Laboratory Supervisor License, OR an active Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist License with supervisory-eligible qualifications (non-negotiable) Current certification from one of the following: ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) AMT (American Medical Technologists) AAB (American Association of Bioanalysts) Fluency in English (written and verbal) is required Essential Duties/Responsibilities Team Leadership & Supervision Directly supervise Clinical Laboratory Medical Technologists, providing daily guidance, technical oversight, and performance management. Coordinate staffing schedules to ensure adequate coverage across shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Facilitate shift-to-shift handoffs, ensuring pending work, issues, and critical information are clearly communicated between teams. Conduct competency assessments, performance evaluations, and ongoing training for laboratory staff. Support onboarding and orientation of new technologists, ensuring familiarity with SOPs, instrumentation, and laboratory systems. Address staff performance, conduct, or workflow issues, escalating to Laboratory management as needed. Technical & Operational Oversight Oversee and review moderate- and high-complexity testing performed by technologists in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, and immunology. Ensure testing is performed in accordance with approved methodologies, SOPs, and regulatory requirements. Serve as the primary point of escalation for technical, instrumentation, and procedural issues raised by technologists. Review and approve quality control activities, calibrations, and preventive maintenance records. Investigate and document testing deviations, instrument issues, and quality variances, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are implemented and tracked. Oversee identification and escalation of critical values in accordance with laboratory policy. Monitor turnaround times and workflow efficiency, identifying and resolving bottlenecks across the department. Oversee reagent and supply inventory management to ensure uninterrupted testing operations. Quality, Compliance & Safety Maintain departmental regulatory readiness in accordance with CLIA, COLA, OSHA, and Eccolab Group's quality management system. Coordinate and support proficiency testing, internal audits, external inspections, and corrective action initiatives. Enforce laboratory safety policies, infection control procedures, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) across the team. Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information in compliance with HIPAA, FIPA, and company policy. Ensure adherence to chain-of-custody, specimen handling, and documentation requirements throughout the testing process. Partner with laboratory leadership on inspection readiness, policy updates, and continuous quality improvement initiatives. Qualifications Associate or bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Biological Sciences, or a closely related scientific field. Active and unrestricted State of Florida Clinical Laboratory license appropriate to the testing performed and supervisory responsibilities. Current ASCP, AMT, or AAB Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Scientist certification. Minimum 5-7 years of clinical laboratory experience, including prior experience in a high-volume or multi-discipline laboratory environment. Prior supervisory, lead technologist, or team lead experience strongly preferred. Must meet CLIA requirements applicable to supervisory personnel for moderate- and high-complexity testing. Ability to maintain all required licenses and certifications in good standing as a condition of employment. Skills/Abilities Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop a team of laboratory technologists. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound technical and managerial judgment. High level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy, quality, and regulatory compliance across the department. Proficiency with computers and laboratory systems; experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) required. Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with staff, management, and external auditors. Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills to oversee multiple workflows and shifts. Ability to adapt to changing priorities, testing volumes, and staffing needs. Commitment to safety, quality assurance, and adherence to laboratory policies and procedures. Key Requirements Bilingual English and Spanish preferred. Authorized to work in the U.S. with valid I-9 documentation. Available for extended hours, weekends, or holidays as needed; open availability required. Subject to background check and drug screening per Florida law. Completion of HIPAA and OSHA training upon hire; ongoing compliance required. Adherence to HIPAA, FIPA, and all confidentiality regulations. Compliance with Florida Department of Health and CDC safety protocols. Professional appearance and conduct required in a clinical setting. Willing to perform additional duties as assigned.
