Job Summary Oversees and manages the Digital and Film Photography lab for the Department of Art + Art History. Maintains the equipment, lab space, and inventory levels. Serves as safety officer. Serves as liaison with FIU Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) for the digital and film lab facilities. Oversees and coordinates the day-to-day operations relating to the Photography area. Repairs and maintains equipment and machinery in film and digital labs. Provides supervision and support for use of machinery, tools, and equipment by faculty and students. Assists with day-to-day management of any additional department spaces without a dedicated lab manager, as needed. Oversee the day-to-day management of the physical digital and film photography lab facility, including reporting any necessary facility deficiencies to Facilities Work Management and the CARTA Director of Operations. This includes proper function of all facility entries and exits, lighting, equipment safety, and cleanliness. Serves as safety officer as liaison with FIU Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). Implements policies and procedures relating to health, life, and safety in the studio and associated spaces, in accordance with FIU EHS policies. Completes annual EHS Lab Self Audit for digital and film photography labs and assists with EHS Lab Self Audit for any additional department spaces without a dedicated lab manager, as needed. Develops equipment use procedures. Provides safety trainings. Maintains safety training logs. Provides technical assistance to faculty, staff, and students. Conducts equipment demonstrations with faculty and students. Instructs and leads in-class trainings and demonstrations. Supervises Student Safety Officers, manages schedules and duties. Maintains a master calendar for shop use. Tracks statistics of shop use. Reevaluates the most effective use of space and time within the photography facility. Conducts regular scheduled maintenance on digital printers and computers (updating OS, software, etc.). Reports software updates that are needed before the end of each semester. Coordinates and manages software licenses, requisitions processing, receiving/invoicing, and processing university-wide internal forms and serves as liaison to PantherTech. Supervises the operation of Color Processor, Black & White Enlargers, Color Enlargers, mix chemistry and stock solutions for B & W and Color. Check the chemical levels in the holding tanks, mix chemicals, stock solutions, regulate temperature, adjust revolutions, developer and bleach/fix pumps, water pressure and regulate dryer temperature. Conducts inventory on a quarterly basis and maintains stock of required machinery parts and materials. Coordinates with the department purchaser to order materials, equipment, and parts for photography equipment. Creates, administers, and manages a small equipment and tool checkout system. Maintains photography equipment and tools by performing preventive maintenance. Troubleshoot tools and equipment malfunction in a timely manner. Creates a system to report tool and equipment issues to be resolved. Performs related duties as required or as directed. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Desired Qualifications Two to three years of experience supervising labs at a college or university.
