This dual-role position is responsible for maintaining safe, efficient, and well-equipped biology and chemistry laboratory environments while providing administrative support to the College of Science, Mathematics, and Nursing. The successful candidate will oversee laboratory operations, inventory management, equipment maintenance, and safety compliance, while also supporting faculty and academic leadership with administrative, scheduling, communication, and event-related responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following: Laboratory Management (Primary Responsibility) Prepare, set up, and maintain instructional laboratories, equipment, and materials. Prepare chemical solutions and ensure laboratories are safe, organized, and ready for instruction. Order, receive, inventory, and maintain laboratory supplies, chemicals, and equipment. Coordinate equipment maintenance and monitor laboratory budgets and expenses. Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, chemical handling, storage, and hazardous waste regulations. Assist with training and supervision of student laboratory assistants. Administrative Support Provide administrative support to the Dean and the Science, Mathematics, and Nursing departments. Assist with scheduling, correspondence, document preparation, and departmental communications. Coordinate facility work orders and support departmental operations and special events. Attend departmental meetings, record meeting minutes, and assist with community outreach and student engagement initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
: Potential to oversee student lab workers with help from department chair.
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple responsibilities. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard office technology. Commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors from diverse backgrounds. Education and Experience Associate degree in Biology, Chemistry, Laboratory Science, Office Administration, or a related field preferred; or Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience. 1-3 of laboratory support, administrative support, or related experience preferred. Experience working in an educational, scientific, or healthcare setting is a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands of this position are: frequently walk and stand, while occasionally lift or move something up to 25 pounds. This is typically in association with setting up and cleaning science laboratories or receiving shipments of supplies.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employee will work in different environments including a normal office environment and the chemistry and biology lab spaces.
