Full Job Description Essential Functions and Role:
This is a "hands on" leadership non-production role. Organizes and carries out analytical and microbiological testing in support of Operations and Quality Assurance objectives Coordinates swabbing programs with Sanitation Manager Provides a resource to Operations, Sanitation, Sales and Marketing personnel. Stays attuned to new industry developments in support of continuous improvement objectives Works in product development with company personnel and contract consultants. Prepares packs and sends samples for outside lab testing, while working with third-party lab people. Logs test results, conducts analysis of data, and reports results to Sanitation, Operations, and Quality Assurance management Cleans and maintains analytical and micro labs. Assists with the technical needs of the off-site live animal laboratory and provides recommendations on equipment and methodologies Performs other work-related duties as assigned by the Director including, but not limited to, trouble shooting and special projects. May require occasional weekend work.
Qualifications:
Must have a bachelor's degree with a major in Microbiology or Chemistry or a related science equivalent. Must have 2 years experience in the meat or food service industry. Must have knowledge of basic laboratory operations; pipetting, pH meter, thermometer, reagent prep, etc.… Must be able to perform chemical analysis and microbiological testing (including but not limited to calcium, fat, moisture, TCP, E-coli , etc.) Understands and follows GLP recommendations. Must be able to maintain laboratory files and records Must be able to assist with Shelf Life Testing Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals Skilled in the use of MS Word and Excel at a basic level Must have outstanding attendance and possess a strong work ethic.
