A Clinical Laboratory Manager manages laboratory research and procedures for numerous fields such as health, industry, or other natural sciences. Commonly oversees R&D, diagnostic or treatment to allow patients to receive better health outcomes. Responsible for regulatory, health and safety operations during laboratory activities.
We are seeking a skilled General Laboratory Supervisor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting specialized laboratory tests and procedures—with a heavy emphasis on Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) biological sample analysis—analyzing results, and maintaining accurate records. This position requires proficiency in clinical sample preparation, extraction techniques, and high-complexity analytical equipment (LC-MS/MS).
Key Responsibilities:
Prepares biological specimens (e.g., serum, plasma, dried blood) for analysis; performs and prepares reports for high-complexity clinical/biomonitoring laboratory procedures under the direction of the Laboratory Director, section heads, and/or technical consultants. Executes specialized sample extractions (e.g., protein precipitation, solid phase extraction / SPE, lipid cleanup) for targeted PFAS panels in human and biological matrices. Enforces rigid trace-level contamination control protocols across all laboratory reagents, pipettes, and consumables to prevent background interference in ultra-trace PFAS detection. Ensures proper operation of liquid chromatographs, mass spectrometers (LC-MS/MS), centrifuges, evaporators, water baths, and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques. Prepares reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing chromatographic data, matrix-matched calibration curves, and QA/QC outputs. Participates in Proficiency Testing (PT) of unknown biological samples according to Laboratory policy for testing survey samples. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; attends required educational training to maintain required CEUs. Maintains required licensing with governing bodies. Maintains inter- and intradepartmental workflow by fostering a spirit of cooperation. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with chemical hygiene procedures, biosafety protocols, and bloodborne pathogen standards. Protects employee safety and patient/client privacy by adhering to infection-control, biological hazardous waste policies, and exposure protocols. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed. Adheres to
HIPAA, PPE
Policies, and Office Rules (maintains patient/client confidentiality and protects the facility by keeping private health and test information confidential). Manages and oversees additional laboratory technical staff and assistants, maintains workflow efficiency during sample volume surges, and fosters a pleasant and collaborative working environment.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, or a related science. Nevada State License as a General Laboratory Supervisor (under NAC 652). Experience working in a licensed clinical, toxicology, or biomonitoring laboratory setting. Familiarity with scientific techniques, chromatographic analysis, and high-complexity testing systems. Direct experience with biological sample preparation/extraction (serum/blood matrix cleanup) or
LC-MS/MS
instrumentation operation is highly preferred.
Skills & Qualifications:
Ability to organize laboratory logs, correctly document biological specimen data in LIMS, and prioritize work assignments during high-volume periods. Demonstrated knowledge of trace-level contamination mitigation in biological testing (avoiding PTFE/fluoropolymers in sampling tube caps, extraction manifolds, and system components). Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with lab staff and others. Ability to accurately analyze chromatographic test results, evaluate internal standards/surrogates, assess matrix interferences, and use judgment in interpretation of testing to assure method compliance. Ability and willingness to maintain a strict level of confidentiality regarding patient and clinical laboratory results. Possesses mechanical skills and deductive reasoning to enable troubleshooting and routine maintenance of
LC-MS/MS
test systems and sample extraction equipment. Possesses an understanding of, and demonstrates compliance with, Nevada State (NAC 652) and Federal laboratory regulations.
