Seeking an experienced Quality Management Specialist to support the Department of Laboratory Services across four campuses. This role is responsible for leading laboratory quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, accreditation readiness, and performance improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with CAP, CMS, CLIA, Joint Commission, and other regulatory standards. In addition to supporting Laboratory Services, this position also provides quality oversight and competency support for Respiratory Therapy Blood Gas Testing. Candidates must possess strong expertise in blood gas analyzers and testing, as they will train Respiratory Therapy staff and assess ongoing competency. This position works closely with laboratory leadership to promote continuous quality improvement, regulatory compliance, laboratory safety, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead quality management and performance improvement initiatives throughout Laboratory Services. Coordinate quality assurance, patient safety, risk management, and regulatory compliance activities. Monitor compliance with CAP, CLIA, CMS, Joint Commission, and other accrediting agencies. Manage departmental document control for laboratory policies and procedures. Analyze quality metrics and develop improvement plans based on performance indicators. Organize and facilitate Laboratory Quality Management and Laboratory Safety Committee meetings. Coordinate CAP accreditation inspections and ensure survey readiness. Develop and implement laboratory quality monitoring programs. Investigate quality issues, identify corrective actions, and monitor outcomes. Collaborate with laboratory leadership to improve processes and maintain regulatory compliance. Provide guidance regarding HIPAA compliance and other regulatory requirements. Assist with laboratory safety programs and policy development. Support Respiratory Therapy Blood Gas Testing programs by providing training, competency assessments, and troubleshooting assistance. Communicate quality improvement activities and performance metrics to laboratory leadership.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or a related Basic Science field. Minimum 4 years of clinical laboratory experience. At least 1 year of laboratory quality management or process improvement experience. Minimum 2 years of blood gas/electrolyte testing experience using Siemens RapidPoint, Werfen GEM, or similar blood gas analyzers. Technologist-level certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or an equivalent laboratory certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
Five or more years of laboratory quality management or process improvement experience. Previous experience coordinating CAP inspections and accreditation activities. Strong knowledge of laboratory quality systems, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement.
