Medical Laboratory Technician Location:
Hardin, Montana Job Type:
Full-Time, Permanent Schedule:
Four 10-hour shifts; primarily 6:00 AM-4:30 PM, with occasional 9:00 AM-7:30 PM shifts
Compensation:
$35.00-$42.24/hour, depending on experience
Sign-On Bonus:
$10,000 Job Summary Lighthouse Lab Services is partnering with a small hospital to identify a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join their close-knit laboratory team in rural Hardin, Montana. This is an excellent opportunity for a laboratory professional who values teamwork, professionalism, work-life balance, and being an integral part of a patient-focused healthcare team . The five-person laboratory provides 24/7 coverage for a busy Emergency Department and outpatient clinic while also performing reference laboratory testing. The ideal candidate will be mature, dependable, collaborative, and comfortable working in a small-team environment. While technical skills are important, this hospital places a strong emphasis on professionalism, communication, and cultural fit , and is willing to provide training in areas where additional experience is needed. Responsibilities Perform routine and specialized laboratory testing across multiple disciplines Provide laboratory coverage for the Emergency Department and outpatient services Perform generalist testing in chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and other core laboratory areas Perform microbiology setup, culture plate reading, organism identification, and susceptibility testing Perform blood bank testing, including antibody screens and crossmatches using tube and gel methodologies Follow established quality control, quality assurance, and laboratory safety procedures Communicate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare providers regarding laboratory testing and results Participate in rotating weekend and on-call coverage Maintain accurate documentation and compliance with laboratory standards and regulations Support a collaborative, team-oriented laboratory environment Schedule & Call Full-time, 1.0 FTE position Primarily four 10-hour shifts, typically 6:00 AM-4:30 PM Occasional 9:00 AM-7:30 PM shifts Rotating weekend coverage, generally approximately two weekend days per month Rotating call coverage, with approximately two nights of call per week Call-ins are compensated at overtime rates with a two-hour minimum Flexible scheduling and PTO practices designed to support work-life balance Qualifications MLT or MLS certification from an accredited program National certification through
ASCP, AMT, AAPB
, or another accepted certifying organization Ability to obtain Montana laboratory licensure Strong communication and interpersonal skills Dependable, professional, and team-oriented approach Ability to work effectively in a small, collaborative laboratory environment Microbiology experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with limited microbiology experience will be considered and trained. Montana licensure may be completed after the hiring process begins, and candidates may begin employment while their state license application is pending.
