Position Overview Carlsbad Medical Center in Carlsbad, NM is seeking a Full-Time Medical Technologist (Evening Shift) to join our laboratory team. In this role, you will perform routine and specialized moderate- to high-complexity laboratory testing on blood and body fluid specimens under minimal supervision. You will play a vital role in patient care by delivering accurate test results, maintaining laboratory instruments, adhering to strict quality control protocols, and assisting with regulatory compliance and phlebotomy when needed. Life Insurance Key Responsibilities Testing & Analysis:

Perform accurate and efficient moderate and high-complexity clinical laboratory tests, ensuring timely reporting and documentation of results to support clinical decisions.

Quality Control:

Execute required quality control checks, analyze data, troubleshoot out-of-range results, and take corrective actions to maintain testing integrity.

Equipment Maintenance:

Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly instrument function checks and preventative maintenance; troubleshoot instrument malfunctions or coordinate with technical support/vendors.

Safety & Compliance:

Adhere strictly to laboratory safety regulations, standard operating procedures, PPE guidelines, and the Laboratory Safety Plan.

Regulatory Support:

Assist with proficiency testing, data collection, and documentation required for laboratory accreditation and regulatory compliance.

Patient & Specimen Care:

Collect chain-of-custody urine drug screens and perform phlebotomy duties as required to support patient care needs.

Communication & Collaboration:

Maintain open communication with healthcare staff regarding critical patient results, instrument issues, and shift updates. Train new employees and students as assigned. Required Qualifications Education (Must meet one of the following): Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science. Passing score on the HHS (HEW) Clinical Laboratory Technology Proficiency examination.

Certifications :

Active certification as a Medical Technologist (MT/MLS) from ASCP, AMT, or AAB required.

Experience :

0 to 2 years of acute care laboratory experience.

License Standing:

Must hold clean, unencumbered credentials in good standing (not currently under active investigation or disciplinary action). Skills & Competencies Solid knowledge of laboratory procedures, quality control frameworks, and health/safety regulations. Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues on complex laboratory instrumentation. Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and accurate record-keeping. Strong organizational skills, detail orientation, and time management in high-throughput environments. Knowledge of population-specific competencies across diverse patient demographics.
