Physician Office Laboratory (POL) — Tyler, Texas Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Technologist (MLT/MLS/MT) to provide as-needed coverage for high-complexity clinical testing in a Physician Office Laboratory (POL) environment. This role supports our current lab technician on an intermittent basis — covering absences, vacations, and peak workload periods. The position focuses on automated ELISA testing, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance under CLIA. This is a flexible, on-call arrangement well suited to a candidate who wants supplemental hours without a fixed weekly schedule. Primary Responsibilities Perform high-complexity automated ELISA testing using the DSX by Dynex. Ensure accurate specimen receipt, labeling, documentation, and processing. Maintain complete and compliant laboratory records in accordance with CLIA regulations. Perform and review quality control, troubleshoot issues, and document corrective actions. Calibrate, maintain, and monitor laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Communicate effectively with clinical staff and medical providers regarding testing needs and results. Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements. Step in seamlessly for the primary lab technician with minimal ramp-up time, following established lab SOPs. Required Qualifications Meets CLIA high-complexity testing personnel qualifications under 42 CFR §493.1489 (e.g., Associate's degree in a laboratory science, or equivalent education/training combination as defined by the regulation). Texas does not require a separate state laboratory personnel license. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific field (Biology, Chemistry, etc.). Prior experience performing high-complexity testing in one or more of the following specialties: General Immunology, Chemistry, Microbiology. Strong working knowledge of CLIA regulations and laboratory quality systems. Ability to work independently and reliably on short notice for scheduled coverage shifts. Preferred Qualifications MLT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), or MT(ASCP) preferred; certification-eligible candidates considered. Hands-on ELISA experience (manual or automated). Experience in a Physician Office Laboratory (POL) or specialty laboratory setting. Availability on relatively short notice to cover planned or unplanned absences.
