Job Description

A Brief Overview As the only Level 1 Trauma PICU in Northeast Ohio, we are currently offering challenging and rewarding employment opportunities within our Pediatric ICU! Our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 20 bed combined medical-surgical unit which cares for more than 1600 critically ill children each year. When a child is transferred to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital's team of caring pediatric team is available to provide the highest level of expert critical care in Northeast Ohio. This includes care and treatment for traumatic injuries, critical illnesses, and for children recovering from surgery. We also treat children referred from the emergency department and other pediatric divisions. Some of the conditions we treat include: Life-threatening traumatic injuries Complications of cancer or blood disorders Diabetic ketoacidosis Liver or kidney failure Poisonings Rare, cancerous tumors Serious or rare forms of any childhood disease Severe asthma attack Viral or bacterial infections, including severe cases of meningitis or pneumonia The clinical educator provides and evaluates clinical education for licensed and unlicensed staff on all shifts and facilitates evidenced-based practice. What You Will Do Collaborates with unit leadership to ensure staff competency upon hire and annually. Supports leadership by facilitating staff's adherence to accreditation standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Exhibits leadership skills and ability to coach and develop staff to maintain and promote quality and affect change. Works collaboratively with the Department of Nursing Education and Professional Development to identify learning needs, develop and implement educational strategies, and participate in learning effectiveness evaluation. Adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics and the Standards of Practice in Nursing Professional Development roles established by the Association of Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) to include: Educator, Consultant, Researcher, Facilitator, Change Agent, and Leader. Provides patient care as required. Additional Responsibilities Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation. Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace. Education (BSN) Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Required) (MSN) Master's Degree in Nursing or related field (Preferred) Master's Degree for Level 4 NICU, Labor ∇ivery, Post-Partum and Antenatal (Required) Work Experience 3+ years clinical experience (Required) in a pediatric or Critical Care/ED environment Experience with education, teaching in clinical setting (Required) Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Ability to prioritize initiatives (Required proficiency) Problem solve and think critically (Required proficiency) Open to new ways of thinking (Required proficiency) Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups (Required proficiency) Able to coach and develop others (Required proficiency) Thorough knowledge and understanding of standards within area of nursing expertise. (Required proficiency) Knowledge of JC/CMS accreditation requirements (Required proficiency) Working knowledge of the use of established clinical and preceptorship models in the development of clinical education programs (Required proficiency) Advanced nursing skills and knowledge in area of specialty (Required proficiency) Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.
