Full Job Description Position Summary:
The outreach worker leads recruitment and engagement efforts for the Jobs for Vets Gulf Coast HVRP program, connecting with veterans experiencing or at risk of homelessness throughout Mobile and Baldwin Counties. This position conducts outreach in shelters, encampments, and other locations where veterans may be found, and supports participants with transportation and documentation needs to remove barriers to program participation.
Primary Responsibilities:
Conduct weekly outreach site visits to locations where eligible veterans are likely to be, including soup kitchens, day shelters, encampments, and VA medical centers. Build relationships with community partners, including shelters, penal institutions, long-term care facilities, and law enforcement, to identify and recruit eligible veterans. Provide recruitment and eligibility screening activities in accordance with HVRP requirements and

guidance. Transport participants from where they live to the program facility, training sites, or interviews as needed. Assist participants with documentation retrieval, such as photo IDs and birth certificates, to support enrollment and full program participation. Collect and maintain accurate intake information and maintain ongoing communication with participants throughout the program. Support post-exit follow-up efforts by maintaining contact with participants and assisting with re-engagement when needed. Use trauma-informed engagement and established safety protocols during all outreach activities. Document all services in a timely, complete, and clinically appropriate manner. Perform other duties as assigned by the program manager or executive team.
Position Requirements:
High school diploma required; additional coursework or experience in human services, outreach, or veteran services preferred. At least two years of experience engaging and transporting vulnerable individuals, preferably veterans. A concerted effort will be made to recruit a candidate who is a veteran with lived experience. Strong communication and rapport-building skills; ability to work with individuals experiencing homelessness, trauma, or crisis. Good driving record; willingness to drive personal vehicle and program vehicle to transport participants; motor vehicle report required. Excellent problem-solving capabilities.
Travel:
This position requires frequent local travel throughout Mobile and Baldwin Counties to conduct outreach and transport participants. Must be willing to use and have your own personal transportation. Mileage reimbursement for personal use of the vehicle is included.
