This role is ideal for someone who can appropriately use their own lived experience with homelessness or housing instability, recovery, behavioral health, or navigating community support systems to connect with and encourage others. Peer certification is not required at hire. What You'll Do Welcome and engage guests with respect, empathy, and without judgment. Use lived experience appropriately to build trust, encourage hope, and reduce stigma. Help guests identify strengths, priorities, goals, and practical next steps. Connect guests with housing, shelter, benefits, employment, transportation, behavioral health, recovery, and other community resources. Provide warm handoffs to Union Mission Case Managers, Counselors, Social Services staff, and community partners. Follow up on referrals and help guests overcome barriers to accessing services. Facilitate or assist with peer groups, orientations, wellness activities, and educational sessions. Model self-advocacy, communication, problem-solving, and resource-navigation skills. Recognize safety or crisis concerns and promptly involve appropriate staff or emergency resources. Maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and accurate documentation. Participate in team meetings, training, supervision, and Resource Center activities. Perform other duties as assigned. What We're Looking For High school diploma or GED. Relevant lived experience and readiness to use that experience appropriately in a professional peer-support role. Strong communication, listening, and relationship-building skills. Ability to work respectfully with individuals experiencing homelessness, trauma, crisis, behavioral health needs, substance use concerns, or other barriers. Basic computer and documentation skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. Experience in outreach, shelters, recovery communities, advocacy, volunteering, or human services is preferred but not required. You'll walk alongside guests, help them navigate resources, encourage self-advocacy, and remind them through both words and actions that progress is possible.
