Job Description

St. Lawrence County Health Initiative, Inc. (SLCHI) is seeking a compassionate, organized, and community-focused individual to join our team as a full-time NYS Health Insurance Navigator. The Navigator provides free, confidential, and unbiased assistance to individuals and families seeking health insurance through the NY State of Health Marketplace. This position helps community members understand their coverage options, determine potential eligibility for financial assistance, complete applications, enroll in appropriate health plans, and renew or update existing coverage. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds, explaining detailed information in an approachable way, and handling sensitive personal information with professionalism and discretion. Key Responsibilities Provide one-on-one enrollment assistance through the NY State of Health Marketplace. Help individuals and families apply for and enroll in Medicaid, Child Health Plus, the Essential Plan, and Qualified Health Plans. Explain health insurance options, eligibility requirements, financial assistance, premiums, deductibles, and other coverage details in clear, easy-to-understand language. Assist consumers with annual renewals, account updates, eligibility questions, and required documentation. Follow up with consumers to help resolve application or enrollment issues. Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records of consumer interactions and enrollment activities. Protect personally identifiable and confidential health information in accordance with program requirements. Participate in community outreach, enrollment events, health fairs, presentations, and other public activities. Build and maintain relationships with healthcare providers, community organizations, schools, libraries, social service agencies, and other referral partners. Meet established outreach, appointment, enrollment, documentation, and reporting expectations. Complete all required NY State of Health training, certification, continuing education, and recertification requirements. Stay informed about changes to health insurance programs, enrollment periods, eligibility guidelines, and Marketplace procedures. Participate in staff meetings, program trainings, and organizational activities. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in human services, public health, social work, healthcare, business, or a related field preferred. Experience in customer service, healthcare, insurance, human services, community outreach, case management, or a related field preferred. Ability to successfully complete and maintain required NY State of Health Navigator certification. Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer-service skills. Ability to explain complex information clearly, patiently, and respectfully. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentation. Comfortable using computers, web-based systems, email, and Microsoft Office programs. Ability to manage appointments, deadlines, follow-up activities, and multiple priorities. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality, cultural sensitivity, and equitable access to healthcare. Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required for travel throughout St. Lawrence County. Availability for occasional evening or weekend outreach and enrollment events may be required. Schedule This is a full-time position consisting of 40 hours per week. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional evening or weekend hours required for community events, outreach activities, or enrollment appointments.
Pay:
$20.00 - $25.00 per hour
