JOB SUMMARY
Provide support to the health services department and district nurse for the services and activities related to the district health program. Receive guidance and supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures; serve as a health liaison between the students, parents, schools and the district office; prepare and update student health data for the district.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
1. Assist District nurse in school health programs and mandated district-wide hearing, vision and scoliosis screenings: a. Assist scheduling classes for screenings. b. Assist health care providers as needed on screening day, e.g. teacher notification, bringing classes to the hearing and vision screening locations, data recording. c. Data entry of screening results in SASI (student data base) 2. Review student immunization records and advise schools and parents of immunization needs: a. Assist with mailings, and phone calls if necessary, notifying parents of needed vaccinations. Requires Spanish/English fluency, as needed. b. Data entry of immunization records in SASI. c. Print immunization records on California School Immunization Record (CSIR) card, and assure that the updated card is kept in the student cumulative record. 3. Audit student cumulative files for first grade health exams as required by California State Law a. Assist with the manual audit of first grade health exams. b. Assist with mailings, and phone calls if necessary, notifying parents of needed first grade health exams. 4. Review student emergency forms and enter health condition data into SASI. Create and print reports on health conditions for distribution to principals, office managers and principals. 5. Enter student health data into Health Office software for LEA billing: a. Blood glucose testing b. Hearing and vision screenings c. Developmental evaluations d. Psychological/Educational testing e. OT/PT Services 6. Provide first aide to students, as needed, when at the schools. Communicate with district nurse and other health care providers as appropriate for first aide/emergency care. 7. Assist district nurse with staff health in-services and CPR/First Aid Trainings. 8. Assist families with Healthy Kids and Healthy Families health insurance applications and referrals as needed. Requires Spanish/English fluency, as needed. 9. With direction of the district nurse, make phone calls or home visits to assist parents with their children's health needs. 10. Attend parents' meetings and other parent involvement programs as requested. Requires Spanish/English fluency, as needed. 11. Assist with student registration. Requires Spanish/English fluency, as needed. 12. Performs other specialized and related duties as required.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Training and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience, which would indicate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities, listed herein. Completion of the 12th grade or the equivalent of a high school education; previous experience with health services and families; bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of child growth and development concepts as they apply to students. Understanding of different cultural lifestyles; knowledge of area health care services and/or social services.
Abilities:
Ability to work effectively with families as well as health providers in the region; communicate satisfactorily in oral and written form in both English and Spanish; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties. Good working knowledge of Word, Excel, and ability to learn district's SASI database.

TECHNOLOGY STANDARD
Ravenswood City School District requires employees to have technology skills. E-mail, standard software usage and data entry may be employment requirements. Advanced technical skills may be obtained through on-job training as needed.
