Cytology Processor Accu Reference Medical Lab - 3.0 Linden, NJ Job Details Full-time From $18 an hour 5 hours ago Qualifications Teamwork Bachelor of Science Spreadsheets High school diploma or GED Associate's degree Full Job Description A Cytology Processor, also known as a Cytology Preparation Technician, plays a vital role in the initial stages of preparing cytology specimens for microscopic analysis by Cytotechnologists and Pathologists. Their responsibilities are critical for ensuring the quality and accuracy of diagnoses for various conditions, including infections, precancerous lesions, and malignant conditions.

Shift:

Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm Primary duties and responsibilities

Specimen Preparation and Processing:

Receiving, accessioning, labeling, and preparing patient samples (gynecological and non-gynecological) according to established protocols. Utilizing specialized equipment and techniques (e.g., ThinPrep, SurePath, cytospins, direct smears) for processing and preparing slides for examination. Staining and coverslipping slides manually or using automated systems. Assisting in fine needle aspiration (FNA) procedures and keeping FNA staining kits replenished.

Documentation and Record Keeping :

Accurately documenting patient and specimen information, test orders, and results into laboratory information systems (LIS). Maintaining records of workload, quality control activities, and proficiency testing.

Laboratory Maintenance and Operations:

Performing routine maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment. Maintaining cytology prep laboratory inventory and supplies. Ensuring a clean and organized work environment, including washing lab equipment and proper hazardous waste disposal.

Collaboration and Communication:

Communicating effectively with team members (Pathologists, Cytotechnologists, Molecular Technologists) to optimize patient care. Collaborating with Pathologists and other healthcare professionals to discuss findings and diagnoses.

Quality and Safety:

Ensuring all safety, quality control, and quality assurance standards are met. Adhering to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment and universal precautions, when handling biological specimens and chemicals. Participating in quality assurance programs and regulatory agency inspection readiness. Qualifications and skills

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent, an associate degree or higher in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology obtained from an accredited institution is preferred, according to Summit Pathology Laboratories, Inc.. Some positions may require or prefer a Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field.

Technical Skills:

Knowledge of cytology specimen processing techniques, including routine and special stains, fixatives, and procedures. Experience operating laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, microscopes, and automated processors (e.g., ThinPrep T5000, ThinPrep T2000…) is also important.
