Summary:
Processes patient samples (Pre-Analytical and Automation). This can include facilitating automation benches in Cytogenetics (Cellwriter 1
- G-Band, Cellwriter 2
- FISH, GSL 102
- G-Band and FISH, banding and tissue culture/send).
Responsibilities:
1. Properly logs in specimens using Cytogenetics' established system, ensuring all patient and test information is complete and accurate. (Pre-Analytical) 2. 2. Sets up all types of specimens according to established protocols in an accurate manner ensuring the use of aseptic techniques. (Pre-Analytical) 3. Performs harvesting techniques of all sample types according to set procedures while controlling and working around any problems or variables. (Pre-Analytical) 4. Performs applicable individually assigned duties in a concise and orderly manner, utilizing the Cellwriter 1 for slide dropping. May include some manual slide dropping as needed (Automation, G-band). 5. Performs applicable individually assigned duties in a concise and orderly manner, utilizing the Cellwriter 2 for FISH slide dropping, probe application and post-hybridization processes. May include some manual processes as needed. (Automation
- FISH). 6. Performs individually assigned duties in a concise and orderly manner, utilizing the GSL 120 for G-band and FISH image capturing, including loading/unloading slides and data entry. (Automation
- GSL).
7. Performs all necessary banding techniques required to achieve optimal quality, band level and pertinent information of the chromosomes. (Manual or Automation. 8. Performs tissue culture technique/send outs according to set procedures, while controlling and working around any problems or variables. 9. Completes daily/monthly maintenance on equipment and instrumentation scheduled within the lab. 10.
Performance Levels:
Exceeds Expectations = Zero errors. Meets Expectations = No Major errors, less than 3 Moderate errors or less than 5 Minor errors. Below Expectations = 3 or more Moderate errors, or 5 or more Minor errors. Unacceptable = 1 or more Major error, 4 or more Moderate errors, or 6 or more Minor errors. 11. Actively participates in training as needed.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in biological sciences preferred (other advanced science degrees may also be acceptable). 2. Minimum of one year previous Cytogenetic laboratory experience preferred.
