Allied Health/Dental Assisting Program Reports To:
Program Director or Academic Dean Position Summary The Dental Assistant Adjunct Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction to students enrolled in the Dental Assisting Program. The instructor facilitates classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical learning experiences that prepare students for successful entry into the dental profession. The Adjunct Instructor promotes student success through effective teaching, mentoring, and adherence to institutional policies and accreditation standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Deliver engaging and effective instruction in accordance with the approved curriculum and course objectives. Prepare lesson plans, lectures, demonstrations, laboratory activities, and assessments. Evaluate student performance through assignments, examinations, skills assessments, and clinical evaluations. Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress. Provide timely feedback and academic support to students. Ensure laboratory and clinical environments meet safety, infection control, and regulatory standards. Incorporate current industry practices, technology, and standards into instruction. Participate in faculty meetings, program reviews, accreditation activities, and professional development as requested. Assist with student retention efforts by identifying and supporting students who may be experiencing academic challenges. Promote professionalism, ethical behavior, and patient-centered care among students. Maintain compliance with institutional policies, state regulations, and accrediting agency requirements.
Qualifications Required:
Graduate of an accredited Dental Assisting program or equivalent education and experience. EFDA certificate and State of Florida Radiology license preferred, where applicable. Minimum of three (3) years of recent experience in a dental practice setting. Knowledge of current dental assisting practices, infection control standards, radiography, chairside procedures, Dental software and dental office operations. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with basic computer applications and learning management systems.
Preferred:
Previous teaching, training, mentoring, or supervisory experience. Experience working with diverse student populations. Work Schedule Daytime Part-time/Adjunct position. Position may require prep-work, planning and grading that may not be paid.
