Job Summary:
Responsible for dental assisting duties listed in Florida Statutes 466 and Administrative Rules 64B-5, screening and preparing patients for treatment; assisting dentist in treating patients; educating patients; processing instruments; taking and developing radiographs.
Primary Responsibilities:
Patient care o Verify patient by use of Double Identifier's o Obtain patient history. o Document patient's chief complaint. o Obtain patient's blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and/or glucose level, if necessary; enter on patient's chart. o Place, expose, and develop necessary diagnostic x-rays. o Assemble appropriate instrument tray. o Perform dental procedure or assist dentist in performing procedure, as appropriate. o Conduct patient education. Perform Expanded Functions approved by Florida Board of Dentistry (FAC 64B5-16.005) o Taking impressions for study casts o Topical application of fluoride (including foam & varnish) o Placing and removing rubber dams o Placing and removing periodontal dressings o Polishing clinical crowns for removal of stains o Polishing amalgam restorations o Placing and removing matrices o Placing intra-coronal provisional (temporary) restorations o Placing bases and liners o Suture removal o Application of pit & fissure sealants o Preliminary charting o Packing and removing retraction cord o Fabricating provisional crowns o Cementing provisional crowns with temporary cement Non-Patient Duties o Maintain Log Manuals o Maintain inventory. o Order and organize supplies. o Change filters, change solutions or chemicals, clean and maintain equipment o Perform operatory disinfections. o Clean, bag and sterilize instruments. o Remove expired items from the clinical areas May be required to travel to other CHC locations. Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required Dental Assistant diploma or certificate of completion from an accredited school or training program including dental radiology required Successful completion of Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certificate (EFDA) within 9 months from date of hire.
Experience:
2 years' experience in a dental setting preferred Must have the ability to effectively use computer software and an electronic health record system.
Certification/Licensure:
Current/valid Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certificate (EFDA) within 12 months from date of hire required. Current/valid BLS certification within 30 days from date of hire.
Special skills:
Ability to stay positive in stressful situations Ability to deal professionally with unhappy, fearful patients Other requirements: Able to work flexible hours and sites as needed Must have a valid Florida Driver's license
