Director of Community Programs Position Purpose:

Clinical position to work for Smile Squad in our school based dental program assisting the dentist and dental hygienist as requested by providing dental services to children within the school setting, while upholding and carrying out the Infection Control guidelines set by the organization. Position will also assist Program Director with clerical and administrative duties as assigned.

Job Functions:

Mobile Dental Clinic

• On Location:

• Drive the mobile dental clinic to sites and complete proper preparation to see patients, including equipment set up, power supply connections, unpacking supplies, etc.
• Oversee operations of mobile dental clinic on location, to include end of day shutdown procedures
• Develop patient schedule and coordinate patient flow with school nurse
• Assure that all necessary paperwork is complete, including but not limited to: patient health histories, registration, encounter forms, and consent for treatment forms
• Assist dentist chair side in patient care customary to the responsibilities of a dental assistant
• Coordinate patient referrals as requested
• Secure equipment, raise levelers, and prepare mobile dental clinic for driving
• Maintain mobile clinic on site and perform necessary maintenance checks as outlined

General Chairside Assisting:

• Assist procedures as directed by the provider and to provide independent care to patients
• Provide educational information to parents/patients, including, presentation of proposed treatment, aftercare instructions, dietary recommendations, tooth brushing and flossing instruction
• Operation and general maintenance of primary equipment necessary to day to day operation of the mobile dental clinic. (Compressor, Vacuum Pumps, Overhead Lighting System, etc.)
• to include start up and shut down
• Open Operatory
• Start Curve patient management s, logging onto computers, retrieving water supply, inspect operatory for cleanliness, stocking needed supplies, turning on service cart and auxiliary equipment
• Preparation of the treatment operatory for patient care, including collection and process of instrumentation, dental materials, placement of barriers.
• Perform preventative procedures independently as directed by the provider. (Rubber cup coronal polish, application of fluoride, patient/parent education).
• Expose and process radiographs following clinic parameters as directed by the provider. Radiographs must be adequate in number and quality in order to ensure accurate diagnosis
• Review medical histories with patients/school nurse and accurately relay information to the dentist
• Document pertinent considerations and changes
• Provide accurate and thorough documentation of patient treatment and/or interaction.
• Accurately post billable services to patient accounts following treatment as directed by the provider
• Maintain supplies and restock treatment and sterilization areas as needed
• Close operatory
• to mean logging off computer, emptying water supply, inspection of operatory for cleanliness, turning off dental cart and auxiliary equipment

Infection Control/Sterilization:

• Operation and general maintenance of equipment used during the process of sterilization and disinfection of patient care items
• to include appropriate opening and closing procedures of the sterilization area
• Load instrument cassettes and loose instruments into the instrument disinfector
• Package instruments for sterilization/disinfection according to the packaging categories stated in Dental Connections, Inc. protocols
• Process hand pieces for disinfection and lubrication
• Load and process Autoclave sterilizer insuring placement of monitoring tools
• Verification and documentation of sterilized items prior to removal from sterilizers
• Sanitize treatment operatory rooms following treatment procedures, including all exposed surfaces
• Sanitation and maintenance of water lines
• Sanitation and maintenance of vacuum lines and debris traps
• Process of soiled laundry through wash and dry cycles and return to the appropriate storage area Additional Responsibilities (as assigned):
• Weekly sterilization spore tests and autoclave maintenance
• Monthly waterline testing and necessary follow-up
• Monthly Radiation Badge Monitoring
• Daily monitoring and weekly replacement of vacuum pump traps and checks of compressor oil levels
• Maintain supplies and restock treatment areas as needed
• Help cover in clinic as needed
• All other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

Education Requirement:

Registered Dental Assistant (registration must be current)

• Iowa Dental Radiology Certification (current)
• Strong computer skills/experience required, including Electronic Dental Records/Documentation
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to maintain long-standing, professional relationships with staff, school nurses and other educational professionals, volunteers, and patients
• Ability to easily relate to diverse populations
• Good driving record and valid Iowa Driver's License
• Individual must be responsible, with the ability to function with minimal supervision
• Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) preferred

Pay:

$20.00

• $26.

00 per hour
