Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our vibrant dental team. In this role, you will play a vital part in delivering exceptional patient care by performing advanced dental procedures, assisting with clinical treatments, and ensuring smooth practice operations. Your expertise will support the delivery of comprehensive dental services, including restorative, prosthodontic, endodontic, and oral surgery procedures. Responsibilities Assist dentists during a wide range of dental procedures including restorations, prosthodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, and pediatric dentistry. Perform expanded functions such as placing temporary crowns, coronal polishing, and applying sealants in accordance with state regulations and practice protocols. Take and develop high-quality dental X-rays and 3D scans while adhering to infection prevention management and aseptic techniques. Manage electronic medical records (EMR systems) such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic to document treatment plans, medical histories, and clinical notes accurately. Prepare treatment areas by sterilizing instruments following dental sterilization procedures and ensuring all clinical equipment is properly maintained. Conduct vital signs assessments and medical imaging as needed to support comprehensive patient evaluations. Support front desk operations by assisting with dental receptionist duties when necessary, including scheduling appointments and managing patient flow. Uphold strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies to protect patient information at all times. Maintain a thorough understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, medical coding, and medical documentation standards relevant to general dentistry and pediatrics. Collaborate seamlessly in four-handed dentistry setups to enhance efficiency and patient comfort during procedures. Skills Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic for accurate documentation and record management. Strong knowledge of infection control practices including dental sterilization procedures and healthcare infection prevention protocols. Experience with dental X-ray techniques, including dental x-ray equipment operation and interpretation of medical imaging results. Familiarity with pediatric dentistry procedures and the unique needs of pediatric patients. Ability to perform chairside assisting with competence in dental instrument processing and aseptic techniques. Excellent understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, medical terminology, and medical coding standards. Skilled in handling dental instruments efficiently during four-handed dentistry for optimal clinical flow. Knowledge of endodontics, prosthodontics, oral surgery techniques, and general dentistry procedures. Ability to work effectively within clinical confidentiality policies while maintaining a professional demeanor in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated commitment to healthcare infection prevention and control expertise with attention to detail in all clinical tasks.
