GLC Government Services is seeking Dental Assistants to work a government contract at FMC Devens, serving an adult incarcerated population.
Place of Performance:
Federal Medical Center (FMC) Devens, 42 Patton Road, Ayer, Massachusetts, in the Health Services Department.
Pay Rate:
$29.22/hour
Hours:
Monday-Friday, excluding federal holidays, 8 hours per day between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., with a 30-minute unpaid lunch period.
Requirements:
Must possess specialty training from a licensed dentist and/or certification from an accredited Dental Assistant school. Training must include dental radiology and radiology safety. Must hold a current radiology license to perform intra-oral dental radiographs. Must be certified in CPR through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Minimum of 1 year of experience providing Dental Assistant services. Bilingual oral communication skills and clinical correctional experience are desirable but not required.
Job Duties:
Assists the Dental Officer with restorative, oral surgery, periodontal, prosthetic, endodontic, preventive, and other dental procedures. Performs and processes intra-oral and extra-oral dental radiographs, including periapical, occlusal, lateral, jaw, TMJ, panoramic, cephalometric, and transcranial images. Operates standard and digital dental radiographic equipment and processes and saves digital radiographs to patient medical records. Performs radiographic quality assurance and follows proper radiation safety and infection-control procedures. Provides chair-side assistance by preparing instruments, materials, medications, and dental equipment. Passes instruments, retracts tissues, irrigates the oral cavity, and operates the aspirator during dental procedures. Assists with endodontic procedures, including rubber dam placement, canal irrigation, and preparation of necessary instruments and materials. Assists with periodontal procedures, including periodontal charting, preparation for periodontal surgery, and placement and removal of packs. Performs routine oral prophylaxis using dental hand instruments, mechanical instruments, ultrasonic equipment, oral hygiene aids, and prophylaxis paste. Performs dental screening examinations and provides dental health education and oral hygiene instructions. Places temporary fillings and assists with the placement and finishing of dental restorations, including bases and liners. Takes primary dental impressions, pours casts, and selects tooth shades for composite restorations and dentures. Assists with the fabrication and repair of complete dentures, removable partial dentures, and other dental prostheses and appliances under supervision. Applies prescribed medications and anti-cariogenic agents as directed by the Dental Officer. Retrieves patient records, escorts patients to the appropriate dental treatment area, and prepares patients for examination and treatment. Documents dental treatment and prepares entries in both electronic and paper patient records. Assists with emergency dental cases and provides instructions regarding subsequent dental appointments. Prepares and cleans dental treatment rooms between patients. Cleans, sharpens, disinfects, and sterilizes dental instruments and contaminated biological waste. Performs infection-control procedures, including autoclaving. Maintains dental equipment, performs daily inspections, and makes minor repairs when appropriate. Reports defective equipment and takes corrective action as necessary. Observes patient responses during treatment and assists with patient dismissal from the dental clinic. Performs other dental assistant duties as assigned in support of the Dental Officer and Health Services Department.
