Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Certified Orthodontic Dental Assistant to join our dynamic dental team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for patient care and a comprehensive understanding of orthodontic procedures, dental assisting, and clinical support. As an Orthodontic Dental Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient experiences by supporting orthodontists during treatment, managing clinical workflows, and ensuring adherence to infection control protocols. Responsibilities Assist orthodontists with patient examinations, adjustments, and appliance placements using chairside assisting techniques. Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and equipment in accordance with infection prevention management policies. Take and develop dental x-rays, including 3D scans, ensuring accurate positioning and patient comfort. Manage patient records using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic while maintaining strict confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines. Educate patients on orthodontic care, appliance maintenance, and oral hygiene practices tailored to pediatric dentistry and general dentistry standards. Monitor vital signs and assess patient comfort throughout procedures to ensure safety and well-being. Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing patient flow as a dental receptionist when needed. Uphold clinical confidentiality policies while adhering to infection control standards including aseptic technique and dental sterilization procedures. Assist with clinical procedures involving oral surgery, prosthodontics, endodontics, or other specialized treatments as required. Maintain proficiency in dental terminology, medical documentation, and medical coding relevant to orthodontic treatments. Skills Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic for efficient patient management. Strong knowledge of dental equipment operation including 3D scanners, X-ray machines, and dental sterilization tools. Expertise in chairside assisting techniques with a focus on four-handed dentistry for optimal workflow efficiency. Familiarity with pediatric dentistry practices and the unique needs of pediatric patients receiving orthodontic care. Comprehensive understanding of infection prevention management and healthcare infection control practices within a clinical setting. Ability to interpret medical terminology accurately for documentation and communication purposes. Experience with medical documentation processes including medical records management and medical coding procedures. Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and educate patients about their treatment plans.
