The ideal candidate will work efficiently alongside the orthodontist, provide excellent patient care and help maintain an organized, clean and productive clinical environment. Primary Responsibilities Prepare treatment rooms, instruments and materials before each patient. Assist the orthodontist during consultations, bonding, debonding and adjustment appointments. Take diagnostic-quality digital X-rays, intraoral photographs, impressions and digital scans. Perform orthodontic procedures permitted under North Carolina dental regulations and within the assistant's level of training. Place and remove orthodontic archwires, ligatures, elastomeric chains and other auxiliaries as directed by the orthodontist. Prepare teeth for bonding by following the office's bonding protocol carefully. Provide patients and parents with instructions regarding oral hygiene, elastics, appliances, retainers and home care. Document treatment completed, appliance instructions, elastic wear, oral hygiene concerns and patient noncompliance accurately in the clinical record. Assist with orthodontic emergencies, including loose brackets, poking wires and broken appliances. Sterilize instruments and maintain compliance with OSHA, infection-control and office safety standards. Clean, disinfect and reset treatment areas between patients. Maintain inventory and stock treatment rooms, sterilization areas and the orthodontic laboratory. Assist with laboratory procedures, retainers, models and orthodontic appliances as trained. Support daily and end-of-day cleaning responsibilities. Communicate professionally with patients, parents, doctors and other team members. Help the office remain on schedule while providing attentive and compassionate care. Perform other duties as assigned by the orthodontist or office manager. Qualifications Orthodontic experience required. Current dental radiography certification. Coronal polishing certification preferred. CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. Knowledge of orthodontic instruments, materials and procedures. Strong communication, organization and time-management skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Willingness to work scheduled weekdays and occasional Saturdays.
