Responsibilities Assist orthodontists during various procedures, including bracket placement, adjustments, and appliance fittings, utilizing chairside assisting techniques. Prepare treatment areas by sterilizing and organizing dental instruments and equipment according to infection prevention protocols. Take and develop dental x-rays and 3D scans to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy. Manage patient records accurately within electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring compliance with clinical confidentiality policies. Educate patients on orthodontic care instructions, appliance maintenance, and oral hygiene practices to promote optimal treatment outcomes. Monitor vital signs as needed and assist with medical documentation related to patient health status. Maintain dental equipment functionality, including dental sterilization procedures and infection control standards aligned with healthcare infection prevention and control expertise. Facilitate effective communication between patients and the clinical team as a competent dental receptionist when necessary. Uphold all clinical confidentiality policies while providing compassionate patient care in accordance with healthcare regulations. Skills Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to orthodontic practice. Experience with dental sterilization procedures, infection prevention management, and aseptic techniques to ensure a safe clinical environment. Skilled in chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance workflow efficiency. Familiarity with dental imaging technologies including X-ray machines and 3D scanners for accurate diagnostics. Ability to operate dental equipment safely and effectively while adhering to infection control standards. Excellent communication skills for patient education, team collaboration, and maintaining a positive clinic atmosphere. Knowledge of pediatric dentistry principles is advantageous for working with younger patients requiring orthodontic treatment.
