Orthodontic Assistant / Pediatric Dental Assistant - Full-Time Small to Tall Dentistry & Orthodontics Chili & Brockport, NY Small to Tall Dentistry & Orthodontics is growing, and we're looking for an energetic, motivated, team-oriented Dental Assistant to join us! We are an established pediatric dental practice expanding our orthodontic services, bringing pediatric dentistry and orthodontics together under one roof. We are also building a brand-new office in Chili, with plans to open at the beginning of 2027. We are looking for someone who is primarily interested in orthodontics but is also excited to be cross-trained and help wherever needed. Our ideal candidate is someone who enjoys variety, works well as part of a team, has a great attitude, and is willing to jump in and help make the day run smoothly.

THE POSITION

This is a full-time, Monday-Thursday position. The position will primarily focus on orthodontic assisting approximately two days per week. The other two days will involve assisting with our pediatric dentists and/or dental hygienists. As our practice continues to grow, there may also be opportunities to help at our Brockport location or provide coverage when needed. Chili will be the primary location. We are looking for someone who wants to become a well-rounded member of our team and is excited about being cross-trained in multiple areas of the practice.

ORTHODONTIC ASSISTANT RESPONSIBILITIES

On orthodontic days, responsibilities will include the typical duties of an orthodontic assistant, including: Preparing treatment rooms and equipment for orthodontic appointments Seating and preparing patients for treatment Assisting the orthodontist during examinations and procedures Taking orthodontic records, photographs, and X-rays as needed Taking impressions, digital scans, and other orthodontic records as appropriate Assisting with placement and removal of orthodontic appliances Assisting with braces, wires, brackets, bands, and other orthodontic procedures Changing archwires and assisting with routine adjustments as directed by the orthodontist Providing patients with instructions regarding orthodontic appliances and oral hygiene Educating patients on proper brushing, flossing, and care of braces or appliances Preparing instruments and materials Sterilizing instruments and maintaining proper infection-control procedures Cleaning and turning over operatories between patients Maintaining orthodontic supplies and keeping treatment areas organized Providing a positive, encouraging experience for our patients, especially children and teens

PEDIATRIC DENTAL ASSISTING RESPONSIBILITIES

On pediatric dental days, you will assist our pediatric dentists with a variety of procedures and help provide a positive experience for our young patients.

Duties may include:

Seating and preparing patients for treatment Assisting the pediatric dentist during examinations and procedures Taking and developing digital dental X-rays as needed Charting treatment and updating patient records Preparing instruments, materials, and treatment rooms Assisting with restorative procedures, fillings, crowns, extractions, and other pediatric dental procedures Providing chairside assistance during treatment Helping children feel comfortable and relaxed during their dental visit Providing age-appropriate oral hygiene instructions Sterilizing instruments and maintaining infection-control procedures Cleaning and disinfecting operatories between patients Setting up and breaking down treatment rooms Keeping supplies stocked and organized

DENTAL HYGIENE ASSISTING

We will also cross-train you to assist our dental hygienists as needed.

Hygiene assistant responsibilities may include:

Seating and preparing patients for hygiene appointments Taking necessary X-rays Updating and charting patient information Preparing treatment rooms and instruments Assisting the hygienist with patient flow Helping with patient education and oral hygiene instructions Cleaning and disinfecting chairs and treatment areas between patients Turning over operatories and preparing them for the next patient Sterilizing instruments Keeping hygiene rooms clean, organized, and stocked Helping the hygiene team stay on schedule Jumping in to assist wherever needed

Experienced as a dental assistant, orthodontic assistant, or pediatric dental assistant Interested in orthodontics and excited to learn Comfortable working with children and teenagers Energetic, outgoing, and positive A strong communicator Organized and able to multitask Reliable and hardworking Comfortable in a fast-paced environment Willing to be cross-trained Flexible and willing to help wherever needed A true team player with a great attitude Experience with orthodontics is strongly preferred, but we are also interested in experienced pediatric or general dental assistants who are excited to learn orthodontics.
