Job Description

Overview:
Job Description Summary:

Assists in providing dental care to pediatric patients by preparing treatment rooms, taking x-rays, assisting dentists, and educating patients and parents.

Essential Functions:

Prepares treatment room for patient by adhering to prescribed procedures and protocols. Prepares patient for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting, seating, and draping patient. Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment area; positioning instruments for dentist's access; suctioning; passing instruments. Provides materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments and in the patient's mouth. Provides diagnostic information by exposing and developing radiographic studies; pouring, trimming, and polishing study casts. Documents dental care services by charting in patient records. Assists dentist in managing dental emergencies by maintaining CPR certification, emergency drug and oxygen supply, and emergency telephone directory.

Education Requirement:

Graduate of an accredited dental assistant training program or the equivalent in applicable experience, required.

Licensure Requirement:

Current license to practice dental radiography in State of Ohio, required.

Certifications:

Board Certified in Coronal Polishing in State of Ohio, required.

Skills:

Robust communication skills, required. Demonstratedability to treat and teach healthy and medically compromised patients. Possesses good manual dexterity. Abilityto monitor nitrous oxide and patient after analgesia is administered.

Experience:

Two years of experience as a chairside assistant, required.
