Orthodontic Assistant Precision Smile Orthodontics Allentown, PA Job Details Part-time $17 - $30 an hour 10 hours ago Benefits Employee discount Qualifications Record keeping Dental assisting Dental care patient counseling Preventive maintenance Dental receptionist High school diploma or GED X-Ray Certification Dental sterilization procedures Decision making Purchasing Health education and counseling Full Job Description The Orthodontic Assistant-Ortho Specialty should be experienced as an orthodontic technician and should be prepared to provide comprehensive assistance to the Orthodontist practitioner including but not limited to; taking accurate orthodontic records; preparing the orthodontic patient for bonding bands, brackets and orthodontic appliances; bonding orthodontic appliances, brackets and bands under orthodontist's supervision; patient for the treatment, changing wires; placing separators educating patient on ortho treatment; assisting the orthodontist in performing their treatment to the patient; prepare materials and equipment for treatment; disinfecting clinical areas, supplies and instruments; providing excellent customer services and any other task required by the orthodontist clinical department. May perform other related work to include, but not limited to, making appointments, answering the phone, ordering supplies, treatment plan presentation, office cleaning and doing the orthodontic billing.
JOB REQUIREMENTS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1.
Greets patients in waiting area and escorts patients to the operator. 2. Assists the orthodontist in the administration of treatment at the chair side as required or directed by the orthodontist. 3. Promotes an atmosphere supportive of good dental and general health by demonstrating good oral hygiene, questioning patients to ascertain home care status, instructing patients in techniques of flossing and brushing in accordance with protocol. 4. Maintains a sterile and neat working environment according to current infection control procedures. 5. Reviews the health history, make chart entries under the direction of the operator and assure completion of forms and signatures. 6. Assumes the responsibility associated with any assisting duties that may be delegated by the orthodontist. 7. Familiarizes the patient with the aspects of their orthodontist visit and provides support and compassion to that patient when it is needed. 8. Stocks operator and maintains clinical supply inventory. 9. Reviews daily schedule to set up appropriate trays and instruments. 10. Assists in front office procedures if time allows or need is determined by the Office Coordinator or Orthodontist. 11. May supervise preventive maintenance of dental equipment. 12. May serve as supply liaison. Communicates with purchasing department and vendors to assure prompt receipt of all orders. 13. Assists in submitting monthly supply order in a timely fashion while ensuring that supplies are not under or over utilized. 14. May perform additional chair-side procedures as permitted by state regulations.
REQUIRED SKILLS 1.
Ability to relate to the public regardless of ethnic, religion and economic status. Qualifications, Education, and Experience. 2. Able to use sound judgment. Possess a calm disposition and the ability to work easily with people. 3. Experience working as an orthodontic technician and tasks assigned to such.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Dental assistants are expected to work in a variety of settings from small practices with only a few operatories to large multi-specialty centers. All locations are equipped with necessary equipment to complete the assigned tasks. It is the responsibility of the Clinical Staff to maintain the supplies and equipment and to coordinate with the supervisor should any issue arise. The work environment is such that the DA is expected to be able to function in a fast-paced environment while attending to patient care and completing all assigned tasks in a timely fashion. At times the DA may be placed in high-pressure situations.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EDUCATION 1.
High school graduate (or GED). 2. Proof of completing radiation safety course. 3. One year experience as an orthodontic assistant preferred, but not required 4. Demonstrates knowledge of dental health education subjects. 5. Ability to complete forms in an orderly and accurate fashion.'
