Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Expanded Functions Dental Assistant to join our dynamic dental team. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of dental assisting procedures, a strong commitment to patient care, and the ability to perform expanded functions under the supervision of the dentist. Duties Assist dentists with advanced procedures including prosthodontics, oral surgery, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring adherence to clinical protocols. Perform chairside assisting with precision, including preparing treatment areas, handling dental instruments, and managing patient comfort throughout procedures. Operate and maintain dental equipment such as X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and dental sterilization systems in accordance with infection prevention policies. Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray) while maintaining strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and safety standards. Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft; ensure accuracy and confidentiality of medical documentation. Process dental instruments following sterilization procedures to uphold infection control standards and ensure clinical asepsis. Assist with patient management tasks including vital signs measurement, medical history updates, and providing pre- and post-treatment instructions. Support front desk operations by functioning as a dental receptionist when needed, facilitating appointment scheduling and patient communication. Maintain a thorough understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and clinical procedures to support effective team collaboration. Qualifications Certified Expanded Functions Dental Assistant with relevant licensure or certification required. Proven experience in general dentistry with specific expertise in pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, prosthodontics, or endodontics preferred. Proficiency in EMR systems such as Open Dental, Dentrix or Eaglesoft for managing medical records and documentation. Strong knowledge of dental x-ray techniques, medical imaging technology including 3D scanners, and dental instrument processing protocols. Familiarity with infection prevention management practices including aseptic technique and sterilization procedures. Excellent understanding of dental terminology, anatomy, and clinical assisting procedures such as four-handed dentistry. Ability to operate dental equipment safely while maintaining compliance with healthcare infection control standards. Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail in medical documentation and patient care processes. Effective communication skills to interact professionally with patients and team members in a diverse healthcare environment.
