Responsibilities include:
Perform adult and pediatric prophylaxis, periodontal maintenance, scaling and root planing (SRP), and gross debridement. Complete comprehensive periodontal charting and oral health assessments. Perform oral cancer screenings and evaluate head and neck findings. Administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide (if certified and permitted by state regulations). Apply fluoride varnish, desensitizing agents, and pit and fissure sealants. Identify periodontal disease, caries, and other oral conditions, and communicate findings to the dentist. Educate patients on oral hygiene, periodontal health, home care techniques, nutrition, and preventive treatment. Review and update medical histories, vital signs, and medication lists. Accurately document clinical findings, periodontal charting, treatment provided, and patient education in electronic dental records. Maintain strict infection control protocols and sterilization procedures in accordance with OSHA and CDC guidelines. Prepare treatment rooms and maintain instruments and equipment. Assist in co-diagnosing treatment needs and effectively present recommended treatment to patients. Build lasting relationships with patients by providing exceptional clinical care and a positive patient experience. Work collaboratively with doctors and team members to ensure an efficient daily schedule and high-quality patient care.
