Responsibilities Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup. Conduct initial patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, taking vital signs, and evaluating oral health status. Assist dentists during examinations and procedures with chairside support, including handling dental instruments and equipment. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote long-term dental health. Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) while adhering to safety protocols and radiation guidelines. Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient records within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix. Follow strict infection prevention protocols, including aseptic techniques and sterilization procedures to ensure a safe clinical environment. Manage dental equipment maintenance, ensuring all tools are properly sterilized and functioning correctly. Support the dental team with administrative tasks related to medical records, documentation review, and medical coding as needed. Qualifications Valid state licensure as a Dental Hygienist with current certification to perform dental hygiene procedures. Proven experience in general dentistry or pediatric dentistry settings with proficiency in four-handed dentistry techniques. Familiarity with EHR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for efficient documentation management. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and infection control standards aligned with HIPAA compliance. Experience in pediatric dentistry is highly desirable, along with the ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages. Competence in taking dental X-rays (dental imaging), vital signs assessment, and patient care procedures. Excellent client communication skills with a focus on patient education and fostering a welcoming environment. Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control practices to ensure safety for both patients and staff.
