DENTISTRY-FACULTY PRACTICE
(IA-DSFP-IUINA) Department Information The Indiana University (IU) School of Dentistry has been advancing oral health in the state and beyond since 1879, when it was founded as the Indiana Dental College. Over the past 140 years, we've become a national leader in preparing oral health professionals, conducting innovative research that has an impact on patients and the profession, and providing patient-centered care. Job Summary Delivers direct patient care using established dental hygienist procedures. Performs procedures associated with the conduct of a denture adhesive study. Performs basic clinical research procedures such as placing and removing specimens from partial dentures. Performs cleaning and root scaling on patients. Manages patient charting. Sets up and prepare dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with established regulations and guidelines. Takes digital radiographs. Sterilizes instruments and sets up and prepares dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with established regulations and guidelines. Qualifications Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.
EDUCATION
Required Associate's degree in dental hygiene. Completion of a 2-year accredited dental hygiene program.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required Indiana state dental hygienist licensure upon date of hire. Radiology license upon date of hire. SKILLS Required Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision-making skills. Ability to work safely and efficiently. Demonstrates a high commitment to quality. Demonstrated customer service skills. Effective interpersonal skills. Articulate and responsive to colleagues. Possesses strong technical aptitude. Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities. Strong verbal communication and listening skills. Working Conditions / Demands This role requires sedentary work as well as extended durations of moving about the workplace. It requires the ability to move objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and the ability to discern between various objects and devices and to position patients. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
